Andromeda Clip from my Feature

Kholi,

Yes I will, but that's a long way away. We only started shooting Tuesday before last, and it's a 90 minute movie. :) And we can't shoot everyday, so it'll be a while.

Oh, I can tell you the name of the movie:

I like the title, Virum. And the still y'chose. Going to get it doctored up a bit more?

Mark, your arguement still is not valid and now you're contradicting yourself. You kept speaking on what YOU would've done with YOUR money. It doesn't matter what makes sense to you, the topic in question wasn't what works for Mark Dog... but the teaser he posted for everyone to see. If you're going to make an arguement, it must be valid; I'm sorry.

Nah, we took that a few months ago to help generate some interest in the project. I actually took it in my living room and then painted out the room and put some brick behind him.

I think it's a neat still, but just not what I had in mind for the final posters. :)

Wow. I didn't even noticed. I wasn't paying attention. LoL. Neato way to make things happen, man.

i looked at V footage again and the reelstreams site footage it is real dam good, but evey thing is recorded to harddrive correct??? and you need an apple computer do run the software correct ?????

That is correct, you need to have your camera plugged into a mac to capture footage to harddrive. I use a 6 foot usb cable with a 16 foot extender.

don't mean to beat or kick the dead horse...wait he hasn't posted here yet...:)

but seriously all mark did was ask a question. it wasn't an argument. it became an argument when kholi "questioned" his opinion. the better answer would've been - it's a matter of choice personal/personal preference. if a person wants to spend $250,000 on a lamborghini and get 6MPG instead of a few thousand dollars on some eco-car and get 40MPG that's their choice. note i'm not comparing the andromeda mod to a lamborghini, because the lambo isn't a modification

i personally think the mod is a good step...will i make that choice? no. i'm basically content with my DVX - hey i have the original - no A, no B - and i'm satisfied. my next purchase will be the HVX, but after i finish my current project.

okay back to topic - good work virum keep plugging along - oh and just to kick the horse one more time - there's a ton of stuff in this world that we wouldn't have if it weren't for people making modifications and those choosing to accept it. :)

Novelt,

In Mark's first post he said:

qhy pay 300[0], dollars for andromeida stream when u could just seel you dvx and get atleast $ 2,500 and then take 3,00 3,500 to it and buy a hvx200 or if udont wanan deal with p2 a jvchd100u ????????????????????

I explain a little bit about why I got it in response to your first post:

However, Sculptor HD can be and is updated. HVX users are stuck with the pixel shift algorithm that comes from Panny. Juan at reel-stream is always improving the current algorithm and will probably add new ones as well, which could be used to get better results depending on what you filmed.

Not to mention andromeda has more latitude than the HVX and is fully uncompressed. These are reasons I bought it, not to mention that since I'm already doing the job of 4 people, I don't have time to offload p2 cards. Not that I could afford them either.

Mark comes back rehashing his opinion:

im back again on this not doubt i to liked the picture quality but icant see spending 3,00 and breaking the dvxwarranty when if yo udont like the hvx because the p2 work load yo ucould go with the JVCHD100U which if see nsome footage of some trailer of stuff done on them and they werent bad here 2 blow one is a movie directed by robert kurtzman of the great spfx company KNB its called THE RAGE the other is a horro movie wel actually they both are lol

He's not asking questions here, he's throwing out opinions, right after I had said that I thought this is nothing more than a pissing contest. Mac vs PC, Canon vs Nikon, HVX vs. Andromeda, it all comes down to the same thing. If you want latitude and uncompressed video with more sharpness than the HVX (going by the resolution charts) at the price of slightly lower pixel resolution, then andromeda is right for you.

If you want solid state, freedom to move around, and 1080p, and variable framerates, the HVX is right for you.

Andromeda is closer to what I wanted, which is why I got it. I don't need to be told to get a JVCHD100U if I don't like the p2 workflow....it's not even close to comparable! I specified I liked the uncompressed nature of the andromeda footage, and I get refered to HDV?!

I don't mind answering questions about how I feel about certain tradeoffs or how certain factors affected my decision, but I get annoyed when people keep throwing opinions on what I should have bought when what I've said I wanted is 180 degrees opposite.

And the fact that Mark is brutally murdering the english language does nothing to help my attitude towards those particular posts.

That's all, sorry if I offended anybody. I just wanted some feedback on my footage since it's been a really long haul and this thread basically came back to HVX versus Andromeda. :(

Sorry, if it were a question it would've been left at that. He kept posting about what he would've done.

I'm sure you read the thread, though, before you posted. Right?

i think bezakor is the only one who got what i said :)

virum and kholi...i'm not disputing anything just that mark has an opinion instead trying to fault him or say how incredibly wrong he is just end it with "hey that's my choice" then he responds with "well i wouldn't do that" then you know what the next step is? you drop it, move on, you've both made your points. you don't keep stating the same thing "well i did it"..."well i wouldn't have"..."well that's what i did"..."well i would've done this"..."well it's my choice"..."well that's the choice i made"...so yes i read 5 pages prior

now note you've made your point. i've made mine and the only response you'll see/read from me is in regards to the actual topic...which i did in my first post or do i have to repeat virum good job, keep plugging along

virum...

i know it's going to the hard drive, but how does it work so that you don't drop any frames because i know it's processing and writing data at 20+MBs per second?

Well you make sure you have a drive fast enough to handle it first. ;)

Sculptor throws an error if the disk can't keep up, and stops the take.

Virum footage looks great. Someone mentioned the dolly bump, Id lose that for sure, especially as your footage does look so clean. I really like the look your going for also. Would love to have a chance to work with an andromeda but that seems very unlikely here in Japan. I saw someone said something like : you cart an imac around? I do also, but with the rest of the gear I need to transport adding an imac is a drop in a bucket. All my stuff barely fits in the car anymore and Im driving a 7 seat car with lots of space.

I have an ibook....i dont know if my drives can keep up, but i guess although it might be a bit of a stretch, i might be able to adapt to an andromeda workflow. I think the main problem for most would be a lack of a powerpoint to plug the computer into, and the hassle of cables everywhere, but for those who already have a monitor attached, hell i'd go with the andromeda anyway - i HATE offloading tape footage.

Virium...the footage looks good. I'd work on the camera work, but in regards to colors and resolution, the footage looks great.

And Mark Dog, when you type in this forum, make sure you pronounce the words fully and articulately....everyone can't read ebonics in here.
