GH13 anamorphic lens edge ghosting issue

I get bright vignetting at the corners of the frame when light spills into my Kowa anamorphic. Is there a name for this effect, and is it to be expected?

I don't find it desirable, as it's not a soft-milky glow over the frame but rather a hard oval stencil. Otherwise this lens has great flares, but unfortunately are often in conjunction with this.

The lens is attached to a 50mm prime like this:

I also have this problem. Notice it more when light sources are more toward the front of lens than behind. Anyone have thoughts on a solution?

qwerty,

Out of curiosity what anamorphic adapter are you using, and what's the focal length of the lens behind it?

i've seen this with my FaderND as well and think it is due to too much space between lenses/glass elements and sensor that allows light to bounce around inside and flare out certain spots in the image.

i'm not sure what you could do to minimize this in this case....

After testing some more, I've determined that this does not happen with longer focal lengths. I've switched to an 85mm prime and I am able to get flares and nice milky vieling.

So even though the Kowa on the 50mm does not actually vignette, it yields "flare vignettes"(tm) at certain light angles.

Less than ideal to have to move the camera back with a long lens for light-spillage shots, but I guess anamorphic on the cheap is just rife with these kind of gotchas.
