anamorphic adapter or filter or lens for the GH-1?

There seams to be many problems with the AG LA7200. At least with the DVX-100 lens. Better look into this before plunging the dough. Iscorama is the better choice.

Thankyou...this is the sort of misinformation that has helped me pick up some nice cheap LA7200's on Ebay. ha ha

guys, im looking to go anamorphic also with the gh1 ..can some one explain if a normal projection lens can be used to get the anamorphic effect..i see lots of "projection lenses" that dont say anamorphic or (2x ,1.5x) on them with just a lens like qualities (something like f1.4 50mm), would these projections work? thanks

Those big silver and gold projection lenses wont wok well because the min focus is 50ft to 100 ft or more.

But, anamorphic lenses like Kowa, Sankor, even Iscorama are also made for "projecting" and sometimes listed as projector lenses, but are better suited because they are relatively small, light, and have decent MFD of 5-6ft, so it is actually usable.

No prob... if it's manageble in size & has close focusing dictance (those are the two biggest concerns).. then it's most likely usable and also sharp. Other than the well known usable ones like agfa, isco, singer, kowa, sakor, hypergonar.. I bet there are still many others out there that no one or not many has ever used.

Then after finding ones that are... next thing is what you want/need.. ie: how big a rear element, how you're gonna mount it (best to use those anamorphic clamps), if focusing both lenses concerns you (then get an Iscorama if you don't want to focus 2 lenses), front element size (too big it's hard to find diopters, also need a filter clamp if it doesn't have front threads), sharpness, widest taking lens you can go, etc., etc. ..and also how much you want to spend.

Do you have any experience with the 2X Kowa? I can pick one up for $100, but haven't heard any GH1er's experience with this...

There are many models...having said that....they are GREAT! I've had several and have loved them all. :) I hope that helps.

HHL, thanks for the response! He says it's the "Kowa 2X Anamorphic Lenses for Bell and Howell". Know this one?

Kowa B&H is one of the best ones... anamorphic adapters all distort, even the expensive sought after Iscoramas, especially with a 50mm taking lens (the widest taking lens at 35mm FF still equivalent you can go with an anamorphic adapter)..

..I hear Lomo's have less distortion, but that's kinda a diff ballpark - expensive, heavy, big big big...or you can go hawk, panavision, etc. ..I may never get a chance to play with these, I am not a millionaire nor a big budget DP, ha.

I have a couple of Kowas 2x. Haven't tried them yet on the 550d, but here is the Kowa for Bell & Howell on the hv30:
http://vimeo.com/13559008
and the Kowa Prominar 16-d on hv30 http://vimeo.com/8274503 (this one is not my work)
$100 seems like a very good price to get one to try.
I think that the biggest drawback is that you have to focus both lenses (taking lens and anamorphic) and that the 2x ratio is quite wide to watch on a 32'' lcd television for instance...
Otherwise these lenses are sharp enough and good alternatives to more expensive anamorphics.

Thanks for the links! I can buy two brand new for $170. I don't think I'll need them, seeing as how my Panasonic LA7200 is shipping out to me tomorrow, but maybe I should buy them and flip them?

fooddude, i just went to a local pawn shop yesterday, and could not resist buying this lens (anamorphic?), they had it for 20$, is there any way i can use this at all? it has a cinemascope attachment front end (i think anamorphic,it says 2x 16mm) and all in one with a lens, anyway i can take that attachment out and use it, but it does not have any focus gear on it..i may have bought something i could not use..darn it..
its the same is this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Bausch-Lomb...tion-Lens-/310242448934?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0

We all agree, buying an ISCO is now insane. What about the HYPERGONAR?

Any Cons and Pros from experts in the house?

/Do

You may want to check out in my link the lens I'm selling, since it's a 1.33x squeeze anamorphic- it would blend in perfect for the anamorphic settings for GH-13.
