Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Glad everyone's finding it helpful! No plans to offer it electronically, for the time being we're only offering hard copies.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Got mine the other day. Very informative! Thanks!

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Hi all,
thanks for the offer. I am planning to buy a DVX100A soon. So I will get a your guide for the adapter soon.

I have  a stupid question. I am confused with all the accessories that can build up on the DVX100, like follow focus, matte, wide angle converter, telephoto converter..etc.

Question: can the 16.9 anam adapter be added onto a camera that already has matte box, follow focus, and wide/telephoto  convertes?

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Shouldn't have a problem with the follow focus, but the matte box, and wide angle/telephoto converters will not work. Pretty much anything that goes infront of your lens will not work with the Anamorphic adapter (yes I learned how to spell it right) unless you get a matte box specifically designed to mount on the adapter, and those aint cheap.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Right -- the only mattebox that currently works properly with the anamorphic adapter is the Chrosziel 411-53PK, which goes for something like $1700. And even then it involves having to shave off the lens hood of the adapter.

No add-on lenses will work with the adapter -- no wide-angle (although you don't need one), no telephoto (and there's only one of those anyway).

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

another question,
lets say I shoot some stuff with 16/9 adapter, and some with the electronic 16/9 of the camera. can these shots edit finely in post-p? I mean no difference will be noticed between them or there will be a difference? as you may have guessed, I was thinking to use the electronic 16.9 with wide angle or telephoto convertres....cauz obviously I cant do that with the 16.9 adapter...

thanks guys

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

They could be intercut, but the success of doing so depends on the shots themselves. The anamorphic adapter (when used properly) delivers about a 33% boost in resolution over Squeeze Mode, so you'd have to pick shots that will survive the resolution loss of squeeze mode.

Using the anamorphic for wide-angle vistas, etc., and squeeze mode for tight closeups may be a workable combination.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

To all who have ordered recently: I'm working an extended gig right now, and should be able to ship the guides early next week. Thanks for your patience! ;D

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

barry, r u going to be stopping making these anytime soon?
Because I'm planning on buying the adapter soon, maybe september or october after the century one has been revealed. But if you are going to stop making these I will order one soon, and not wait until i buy the adapter.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

I'll keep making them as long as orders keep coming in consistently. If it trickles down to one order in a blue moon then yeah, I'd pull the plug, but right now the pace is strong enough to keep going for a while.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Barry, I just bought the guide moments ago, thank you -- I'm interested in understanding the differences between the ani and squeeze mode -- I understand that the resolution is better with the ani, but why so high if the 100A squeezes all the information on the 4:3 chip down to 16:9. I'm just trying to understand how good, or bad the squeeze mode is compared to the resolution in 4:3 or the ani. Does the guide address these questions and if not, could you now -- Thanks.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

tibent,
the guide gives a more than comprehensive answer to that question.
Just be patient ;) ;)
(Believe me it was harder for me living in Europe...)

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Hi all,
Not sure if this has been covered or relevant since I don't know exactly what's in the guide. But are all distance in measurements in feet or metres?

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Okay -- got the guide. It's amazing!!! Totally worth every cent -- if not more. I just have a couple questions. The anamorphic adapter is not going to work for me on a documentary so, since I hope to blow this up to film or at least uprez to HD then I have to shoot letterbox and not squeeze (darn -- I was just getting to like squeeze). Question #1 -- You say to shoot thin with squeeze but you don't say anything about shooting thin with letterbox -- does it stand true with that as well. Also, if I change the F5 default to thin, can I still use the 3:2 pulldown in F5 to edit on any software -- rather than go to the F6 default and be in the 3:2:2:3 with thin and have to cut on a 24P supported NLE? Lastly will using thin in any of those defaults require me to use a reduce flicker filter to thicken it up and reduce aliasing if I show it on an NTSC monitor. Thanks Barry -- great work.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Hi Larry,

Yours was delivered this morning actually. I did run short on 'em, and then landed an extended gig which made it difficult to find time to make more up, and I posted a note at the top of this page to alert people that there would be a small delay. I'm almost caught up now, but there are still a few that haven't shipped, so I hope everyone can indulge me just a little longer to get them all out.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Barry, how can I buy it NOW and get it electronically? (download or attached to an email)

I've got a big production that starts next week with 2 cameras (both of them DVX100A's with anamorphic adapters) and I need the info TODAY if possible
