Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Thanks guys!

For checks, that's something that would have to be worked out with Jarred. He's handling all sales, and I don't know if he's set up to take checks. A money order might be easier, but again, I'd have to defer to J-Dogg for the answer on that.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

You can send cheques or whatever to Barry, since hes in Nevada the cheques will clear alot faster than up here.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Checks are okay if need be. Paypal is the easiest, but for those who like to pay with paper, checks are okay, money orders are better, post office money orders are best. For non-US customers, an international money order or Western Union Bidpay would be preferred.  If paying with paper (i.e., check, money order, etc.) you can send it to:

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Okay, first batch of 'em have been shipped out! I also added a new element to the package, which is a pair of stickers that can actually fit right on the anamorphic adapter, with the most necessary charts printed right on 'em. Makes 'em a lot tougher to lose, that's for sure -- but the printing's so small you may need a magnifying glass! In any case, when you get your guide, you'll find these two stickers in there, and in case you're wondering what they're for, this is what I did with 'em:

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Wow !

That's the kind of "Fast Tool" i like to work with.
There is a lot of knowledge and a lot of patience involved in this...
Very professional and practical way of thinking.
It will save time, and more important, it will save scenes.

My check is in the mail.

...IT IS A MUST.

thanks again Mr Green ! :D

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Hi Barry:

Great Job! Just received my copy yesterday. I find your manual to be the most comprehensive and enlightening article to date on the proper use of "widescreen" and the anamorphic adapter.

Two months ago I violated my own rule of production by trying a new piece of equipment on the job. I shot a wedding using my two anamorphic adapters in the 24P mode (I have one 100 and one 100A) Like most Catholic Churchs, it was dark. I couldn't figure out why I was getting such a "soft" focus on all my shots except the "superwide" shots. Now I know I can't shoot using the anamorphic lens if my lens has to be "wide open". For those times, I'll have to resort to "the squeeze mode" for the 100a and do the squeeze on the 100 in post.

Again Barry, wonderful job. I would strongly recommend this manual to everyone who is either now using or plans to use an anamorphic adapter.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

Hey Eric! Glad to hear you liked it, and yes, it was circumstances like that that drove me to figure out what the deal was with the adapter. Sometimes I'd get superb results, and sometimes they were subpar, and I wanted to know WHY. And I know a lot of people out there are spending $800-$950 on this adapter and they want good results, darnit!

So now it all makes sense, and I am a million times more confident using the adapter now. I'm glad it helped you out!

For clarification, you can shoot wide-open, you just have to be zoomed out some. You can't shoot wide-open and full telephoto. But as Adam's chart shows, you can be wide-open up to about Z55, if your subject is far enough away. Or you can be wide-open all the way down to 3' away, as long as you're zoomed out to about Z20. So wide-open can work, but not wide-open and full-telephoto at the same time.

I Agree, thanks Barry, it is very helpful...

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide now available!

I got mine yesterday as well. I have to say thanks to Barry as this was definatly worth the price, probably worth about 5x the price at least. I don't have the animorphic adapter yet, but I am going to rent one for a short "theatre etiquitte" film that we are doing to be shown before each feature film in a local movie theatre. "the theatre is actually in the same town that "Twin Peaks" was filmed in. We are going to be blowing up to 35mm and I knew that the ani -adapter was the way to go. I am thinking that there may be some shots that we may do in letterbox or squeezed to get some additional depth of field. Anybody have any experience with this as far as blowing up to film with a mixture of Ani-adapter footage and letterbox-squeeze footage? The whole thing will also be black and white so any other advice will be much appreciated. Thanks again Barry, excellent job, and it's a great bathroom read as well. I read it twice in the bathroom today already ;D
