An Output Settings Question For My Hd Project

Greetings everyone,

I'm just about finished up with my HD video project (after a year of editing!) and I have a question about the output settings for burning a Standard Definition DVD:

Based on the Panasonic HVX200 setting of DVCPRO HD 720p24, what setting would you recommend for the best quality possible when exporting out of FCP for use in DVD Studio and eventually burning the project onto a DVD (i.e. codec, bit/data rate, size)?

Any information you can offer would be greatly appreciated, as I'd like to premiere the film in late June.

Thanks in advance!

create a new uncompressed SD sequence. drop your HD sequence on to that. (apply appropriate aspect ratio settings) export that as a standalone quicktime (not using qt conversion), bring that into dvdspro - ALL WILL BE BEAUTIFUL!

I don't any specific reason to transcode to uncompressed from DVCProHD.

We get fabulous SD DVDs simply but exporting QT/Current Settings/Audio and Video/Self Contained/No Recompression and dropping that into the appropriate preset in Compressor or using BitVice.

Thanks for the reply. I think I've been doing it this way, minus the dropping the project into Compressor. Do I really need to use Compressor?

If you dump the quicktime right into DVDSP, it uses compressor anyway(I believe). In DVDSP preferences, you can change the bitrate and and such, like in Compressor.

Thanks for the clarification. I think you're right about DVDSP. It seems to do it internally rather than my having to go to Compressor itself.

is there anything wrong with just exporting the DVCProHD timeline using compressor's best quality 16:9 preset?

it seems a lot simpler/quicker than exporting a quicktime and then converting that quicktime file using compresser... unless you guys know something I don't (which is possible- the knowledge base in this group is amazing!)

I always use Compressor.

1. More control over encoding.

2. Ability to encode aiff audio to Dolby2 which affects compatibility and performance of the DVD.
