Amazing price for HVX

Thank you sir! I have a feeling that when you're ready, we'll also be ready with a great Camera package for you. :)

Rush, your mentioning of the FS-4 Hard Drive was the first time I've heard of it. I did a quick web search and found one, looks pretty awesome! Didn't do too much browsing but B&H has it for $749. You're definitely right, much cheaper than the P2 cards. In your opinion, are there any major cons to using a hard drive like that (maybe b/c the technology is new to pro-sumers or difficulties mainting it's performance in the field?). I hadn't seen anyone else mention it so i thought I'd see what you thought about it. Thanks Rush.

(and as soon as I have the money for my HVX200 (spring-summer 06) I'll be looking to you and EVS)

the FS-4 will not record HD off the camera... it will record the DV signal however.

So if one was planning to pretty much record all standard DV footage and wanted an option other than tape, the FS-4 might be a pretty good option?

Hey Rush, I noticed you haven't updated your counter on how many pre-order there are. Let me take a good guess, say 112 pre-orders (counting mine as well, I may order two more if the I get this gig). I have several people in NY interested in buying this camera. They are all talking about getting it from B&H. I will mention your deal and see if I can channel them to you.

Sorry Oreo, i meant the New HD Firestore Drive, not specifically the FS-4. I just modified the post so that it does not confuse anyone further. I hear it will be cheaper than one card, perhaps around $1400, so it won't be as cheap as the FS-4, but still much more affordable than 2 P2 cards.

I will be happy to help you with your order whenever you are ready, and thank you very much for thinking of EVS. :)

As far as I know, yes, it will record any DV stream.

I been swamped! I just updated it. It is not that much! I wish! Well, I figure a lot of people further up the line aren't going to be able to come up with the money at the time of shipping, so the next person will take their place, etc. I have a feeling that initially we will ship maybe 30 cameras, and then everyone else will start to get their finances straight, and we go back down the line. We have over a 100 kits on order with Panasonic, so we should be getting decent allocations.

Sure thing, I'd definitely appreciate that. Just give them my email.

Hey Rush, while you're updating your signature line, check on the release date -- you're still saying 4 months, when we're actually down to around two and a half...

I'm planning to shoot my next film on this camera. One peice of advice I'd offer to anyone who is going to buy a camera to shoot a film.

Wait until the last possible moment to buy the camera (allowing of course for practice and testing). The longer it's on the market the more prices will drop. I'm planning to shoot next July and I won't purchase the camera until the beginning of June.

I saved about $800 when I bought my DVX-100 by waiting. Which saved me enough to buy all the DV stock I needed to shoot FREEZE OUT. See www.freeze-out.com to catch the trailer.

Hi, I'm new here and have been reading a lot about the HVX200.. From what I can gather recording straight to the P2 cards records it straight in only the frames you set it to record but sending it out via firewire sends it as a 60i signal with the extra frames.

I know that isn't unsual but with all the talk about the firestores I just wanted to know if this is either incorrect or, in the case that it's true, does actual P2 recording offer any distinct advantages?

As excited as I am about this new camera, I'm probably going to wait a while before getting it because I won't need HD for a while and I can do without the rest of the improvments for a while.
By the time I do get it I hope the P2 cards will be bigger and cheaper and maybe get some rebates on the camera itself from panasonic...
But my uncle will probably buy one (he does need it for his TV productions), and since he's gonna be in LA for a year now I told him to check EVS and Rush

Close but not quite. When recording 1080, it always gets recorded as a 60i signal whether to P2 or transferred out the Firewire. When recording 720, the P2 card only records the actual frames. The Firewire gets a 60p output regardless of what frame rate the camera is set at; active frames are duplicated to round out the sequence to 60 (so when shooting 30p, each frame on the firewire gets duplicated once).

It remains to be seen whether the FireStore will employ intelligent logic to remove the duplicate frames. If it does, then you'll get maximum recording time (over four hours of 720/24p for example). If instead it just blindly records the full 60p stream that the camera's feeding it, then you'll get more like 100 minutes of 720/24p. The advantage to P2 under that case is that you can record 2.5 times as much 720/24p as you could 1080/24p; but with the FireStore it would be the same (either 720 or 1080 would give you a max of 100 minutes).

Again, this is unverified -- we don't yet know whether the FireStore will be designed to handle active-frames-only, or if it just records the full firewire data stream.

How does it work, then, with framerates that are not evenly divisible by 60? If it repeats some frames more than others, then you're not going to get accurate motion detail. Just interested in how this works...

It repeats as many as needed to get the full sequence.

So, for 4P -- it'd repeat each frame 15 times.

For 48p -- it'd repeat every fourth frame once (I think).

For 24p, it repeats every even frame once and every odd frame twice (the familiar 2:3 pattern).

For recording on P2 it's all irrelevant, as you get only the active frames. It only becomes an issue when recording to a computer, or (perhaps) when recording on the firestore. In those cases you'd use a pulldown extraction program, which would presumably be something like Apple's FRC utility.

Try about $1800, from what I've heard from the folks at Focus. Unless it's been changed, the release seems to be set around March '06. Us doc and event people will be left hanging until then.

I WILL check out your store. I've been using B&H and usually had good response from them. The only thing I didn't like was being charged a penalty on a tripod I returned to them that had one of its legs sheared off. (How Bogen packed something so obviously defective at the factory is beyond me.)

Anybody who is reasonably price competitive and doesn't charge me for returning defective merchandise will have a shot at my business.

I just took that line out, I know I will forget again....

Thanks Eshy! I will be sure to take care of him. :)

Was that list price, stein, or street? I will have to call them again to be sure. I was sure it was about $1400 street.

I have never charged restock for defective merchandise. It says it right on our site, no restock for defective merchandise, and we ship the replacement free of charge. :)
