FS7: Almost cannot believe it but... FM 3.0 is here.

Why would 2K have nasty aliasing? HD on the FS7 doesn't and isn't that the full sensor also? The line skipping or whatever voodoo that was causing aliasing was only for the HFR options not on HD. I don't know enough about 2K full it to have a knowledgable opinion. I'm hoping to update my FW this afternoon at some point.

Well the line skipping voodoo is present in 2K Full and for the life of me I can't understand why this option exists.

Sorry, I'm still confused about how to reestablish my settings. Is there a way to save my current set up using all files? Or do I simply need to reestablish them all by hand and then resave again to the newly reformatted Sd card after I've done the update?

I was testing the performance of 2k 240p RAW with the v3 Firmware today, and noticed that to change into 2k RAW, you have to select this option. My guess is that 2k RAW is the only reason to select it.

I need to do more testing, but my initial results suggest that 2k 240p RAW is dramatically improved.

I deleted all the All Files in the FS7 directory of the SD Card and built a couple of new All Files and saved them out.

The update is going to change how I work and I don't need as many All Files to get around the laborious menu system anymore so it was no great shakes.

Well, how much that shows up in a final image in part depends on the type of scene you're shooting. So there's that.

And then - there's the matter of lenses. You may need a field of view you can't acheive if you crop in. And a crop in also effects your bokeh. So I think there are reasons to have both options.

BTW, the F5/F55 v7.01 firmware instructions state that prior ALL FILES will work in those upgraded cameras.

I, however, act from abundance of caution. Particularly in the case of the FS7 v3.0 update where there are so many new functions and changes in menus.

But why would you shoot 2k Full which is the line skipping full frame of the sensor over the Normal scan of the sensor. 2K Centre is a different argument.

These are not HFR settings these are in the Base Settings of the camera. I understand why one might choose to use line skipping in HFR to get wide enough FOV but why is this setting in the Base Setting of the camera for 'normal' frame rates?

much, much more pleasing experience now. Faster menu and faster boot up time makes it much better run n gun camera. That was constantly slowing me down - i often left settings as they were because changing for more suitable would require to much time.

Note.
Recording indicator in clean display option still not present :|

You guys weren't kidding about the fans spinning up; I don't think I ever heard them before. My FS7 was sitting on a wood floor with zero obstructions when they fired up.

Now I'm eager to test out the NR in Cine EI. Has anyone ran any extensive tests yet?

My testing is far from extensive, but the initial results are good. As expected, the noise reduction isn't quite as good as using Davinci Resolve in post, but if you are shooting on-the-fly or to hand off footage, it should work very well for you. Even at the "High" setting I wasn't seeing any artifacts.

Alister Chapman was saying that banding can occur while grading. Can you confirm that?
