AJA KiPro is clipping the signal????

Well, to each his own I guess.

I do everything uncompressed since years (whenever possible), and never had a problem (besides schlepping a workstation around on set).
The Hypershuttle now makes things much easier now for me.

Some guys don´t have the time to wrangle with terrabites, I don´t have the time (and nerve) to transfer my data to lossy codecs that slow down my workflow.
Since I experienced how superfast and snappy uncompressed in postproduction is, I don´t look back.
Money and storage space is not the point, since HDDs are cheaper than tapes today.
eSATA and SAS deliver enough speed if you need it - even most notebooks and $35 HDD/SSD docking stations have eSATA now.

But what works for me, does certainly not work for everyone.

Frank, what happens when you stack 11 video layers, music and FX tracks on top of NLE changes? (I had to do that with a 9 layered virtual set interspersed with live action and FX recently.)

That´s an extreme scenario for any NLE. I don´t have that happen too often (actually never), cause I do mostly narrative or commercials.
But yeah, I guess that would slow things down- but it would also slow things down with compressed material.
In the first case because of bandwidth in the second case because of CPU/decoding load.

It was the limit of my system with 4Tb in a Raid0 array and 4 quads. It wouldn't have gotten the data off the disks fast enough if it was uncompressed. As it was the live actors could walk around the virtual set. The screens are all animated and the work stations are virtual, as well as virtual lighting in this Norad set. I had to do virtual DOF too with a variable Gausian blur.
