AG-HMC40 Pricing Announced

I wonder if panasonic will offer any other deals in the near future on the hmc40 (battery, sd card, etc.) besides edius neo in the box?

History shows that

However, note that Panasonic dropped the price of this cam about $1000 between announcement and shipping.

The original price was still $800 less than JVC's price for their HM100. If you consider it as priced compared to its competition, was it so "totally unrealistic"?

The HM100 is akin the iPhone: trendy, cute, multifunctional and expensive. But some people want exactly that: a compact camcorder with an XDCAM codec.

I compare the HMC40 to the TM300, and I personally would not pay extra $2,000 for 720p and for wave monitor. Panasonic was smart enough to realize that and to um... correct the price.

Your comparison is invalid. You're talking about PH mode, 24p shooting, 30p shooting, waveform monitor, 3-year warranty, support from the broadcast division, etc. If you don't need any of those things, by all means get a TM300.

The HMC40's competition is the HM100. And it costs just over half what the HM100 does.

Other than the Sony HDR-FX7, what other Professional Video camera comes close in price to the Panasonic HMC-40?

Bob Diaz

Actually, the HDR-FX7 is a consumer camera ("advanced amateur" camera), while the HVR-A1 is a pro camera, at least this is how Sony position them. The HVR-V1 is a positioned as a pro cam, but it costs ~$3,4K.
