AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

I have three sets of scenes files, each containing six scenes. How do I know if I have loaded scene 1, from scene set 2, correctly? Yes, I have read Barry's book but can you tell by looking at the text files in a text editor and comparing what you see there to what you see on the camera's LCD display?

Could you please link to the post where these three sets are published? I only saw Barry's files published here.

As long as you selected the scene file 2 and selected scene 1 you should be fine. By checking a few parameters in the text file and in scene file 1 in the camera is the only true way to tell if you did it properly.

Graytail, many of the variables in the text file are cryptic. What I did was initialize the scenes back to their orignal settings and then load a scene file in. Prior to loading a scene from your SD card, look at about 5 or 6 of the settings in the scene that you are about to replace. After you load the scene file in, compare those 5 or 6 settings. That may be a better way to do it in the beginning.

DVX200 Trigger Shogun

DVX200 Trigger Shogun

Hi Guys,
Long time reader first time writer. I have a DVX200 and would like to know if anyone is using it with an Atomos Shogun. When connected via HDMI in 10 bit 4:2:2 the camera can't record internally, I know that. But I was under the impression I would be able to trigger the Shogun via the Record button on the camera.

Unfortunately that's not possible as the error message states on the camera screen. Not a big problem because I can do it the other way around by triggering recording from the Shogun. While an OK solution it's not ideal but I can live with it especially since there is a remote after market option on the Shogun (haven't tried that yet tough).

My question is: Does the Shogun trigger the camera to start / stop recording or is the camera actually recording as long as the Shogun is powered on and the Shogun just 'taps in' when I press record on the Shogun screen?

Also, does anyone have a different setup where the on-camera Record button can be used (maybe SDI)?

The camera can trigger the shogun to record. If you are in 8-bit output you can set the record button to trigger both internal and external. If in 10-bit, you can set AUTO REC on a user button. That user button will trigger recording on the shogun (if you have also set hdmi tc to on, and set sdi remote rec to on, and set remote rec link to off.)

Hey Barry, I just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you've put in. I just finished your book last night and I think it's just what I need to get everything I want out of this camera. You're the best!

Hi, I'm another 'long term reader but first time writer'. Barry firstly wanted to also thank you fr the DVX200 manual which is incredibly useful and contains some really 'gems' of advise (for example the section on how to optimize the DVX 200 in low light conditions). I have 'down loaded and uploaded' your different scene files to the camera and have been testing them in different conditions. I will be using my DVX 200 in early January for a film trip to the amazon jungle in Colombia and was wondering if you had any opinion on which of the scene files might be most appropriate. I do not plan to shoot VLOG. Scene file 1 seems as per its name perhaps the most natural, although scene file 3 (portrait) slightly brighter so perhaps better for shooting inside (I envisage quite a lot of low light filming conditions). Any guidance really appreciated.

After a big test
I made a chart, I wrote out from the Camera menu
the default settings (SCN) and Barry's settings
interesting to visually much better Barry's settings
Most of the almost noiseless, although the black level is really low
I like factory SCN 5, and Barry's SCN 6 ...but this is dependent on people

who is interested, visit....not nice look:)

Merry Xmas!

Looks like new firmware has been released to address a couple of issues.

Ver 1.29 - Improvement

  1. USB function is disabled in Ver. 1.28. This issue was addressed.
After the update to Ver. 1.29, please initialize the menu settings.
This problem will not occur in other versions. The menu initialization is not needed.
  2. In AF mode, the Zoom motion may make part of the internal controlling mechanism resonate to cause the noise. To correct this issue, AF controlling is optimized.

I wonder what is meant by "please initialize the menu settings" then oddly enough they say "the menu initialization is not needed.

I don't see anything that will allow you to initialize the menu. Maybe Barry has the inside scoop on what they are talking about.

I read that as, if you are upgrading from v.1.28 to 1.29, do a reset afterward. If you are upgrading from any other version, the initialization isn't necessary.

AFAIK, the last version that was widely distributed was 1.25 on 11/16/2015. So I don't think many of the users here will have the intermediate version that caused the USB problem.

They mean the maintenance menu "initial set" command.

Thanks. I had a feeling that might have been what they meant but I wanted to verify it first being that I knew that I would have to go back in and make a ton of changes to get things back to where I was.

I've just read about 80% of Barry's book skipping some parts since it does not really apply to my HC-X1000, and I'm convinced the DVX200 is a really just a grown and matured HC-X1000 with a larger sensor.. Well atleast thats what I think.
