AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

Thanks Barry. That answers my question of sensitivity as I am sure the X1000 is very similar to my FDR-AX1. Also the difference is a little better than the difference I see between my NX5U and the FDR-AX1 which shows a similar 24db difference.

I don't think I would have said that in relation to the X1000. I said that in relation to a 1/3" camera, like the AC160 or HPX250, which have a native ISO of about 320. But the X1000's native ISO is 40, which is a lot darker.

Thank you for clarifying that. And also thank you for the test. The DVX definitely looks much cleaner and brighter than the X1000.

Perhaps this will put the speculation to rest. I set up a very low light environment, and shot the DVX200 and X1000 at a test chart. I set both cameras to scene file 1, defaults. I put the DVX200 at High Sens, otherwise it was stock. Both lenses wide open, both cameras in UHD/60P, both shot from the same distance, both on 1/60 shutter.

In this photoshop document, there's a still of the DVX200 at 0dB, and the X1000 at 0dB. Then, I cranked up the gain to where the white chip just hit 100 IRE. On the DVX200, that was at 8dB of gain; on the X1000 I had to go all the way to 24dB and it still wouldn't reach 100 IRE, it only made it to 90. Each still is saved in the PhotoShop .PSD document as a layer, so you can toggle the layers on and off to see how each did.

Thanks Barry for doing that test, it's very easy to see the results.

So the HC-X1000 wide open is f/1.8 and the AG-DVX200 wide open is f/2.8. Even though the HC-X1000 is 1 1/3 stops faster than the AG-DVX200 it shows a significantly darker image. One of my initial concerns regarding the AG-DVX200 camera was that it's sensor size advantages, as it relates to low light performance, would be cancelled out by the inherent limitations of it's lens relative to the HC-X1000.....based on the images you shared that clearly isn't the case.

I know it's a lot to ask but is there any chance you might be able to do a resolution comparison between these two camera's?

Thanks again for posting the test, cheers!!

Anybody know how to slow zoom rocker speed, the physical lever for fixed, or variable is gone....menus have fast zoom, but I turned that off and zoom is still to fast

Too fast? It takes about three and a half minutes from wide to tele when you use the slowest speed. Just push the lever very little.

That portion of the zoom travel is very little as soon as you go past that it takes, I want a constant in the zoom rocker

How do you select each card for playback? Seems you are only able to select card 1, How do you select card 1, or card 2 for recording...there seems no "select slot" function.

How do you select each card for playback?
Touch the icon on the left of the screen, it will likely be a picture of a camera with a memory card overlaid on it, showing a "1" or a "2". Touch it, and it brings up a menu to select whether to play back videos or pictures, and from which card.

Thank you, but how do you select which card you want to record on, that is without going into the menu system?

Well... by going in the menu system. There is a "media select" menu that lets you specify.

Other than that, I guess maybe you could eject the card you don't want to use?

How do you load or save a scene file to a card? I can't find this in the manual, but it seems you look in the private folder of the card...am I on the right track?

Same firmware with mine.. but, for the moment, this camera makes the ugliest skin tones I've ever seen.
Even with some Gamma and Chroma Phase tweaks.
A kind of "chemical" orange cast.. So far away from my good old Panny AF101.
Very disappointed !
why don't you post some examples?

After 6 hours of tweaking, things are slightly improved.
All my tests were made under natural light.
I'm a run N' gun rural video guy, if I wanna waste my time with artificial lights, charts and post, I shoot in V-Log + external recorder or I exhume my BMPCC.
With the DVX200, I need "fast-food" rushes and good flesh tones right now. My Panny 101 can do this !

Improved one (same light and WB) :

Improved one (but still reddish/orange to my taste) :

Sorry for my pathetic face, basically I do this job to always stay off-camera...
