AG-7200 (AG7200) Anamorphic Lens Discussion and Footage

I've seen those stills, too as well as test reel available on vimeo:

Very impressive. Wonder how close he's able to focus. Looking at that 'test reel' fence shot, it seems like he gets pretty close.
I've just pulled the trigger on this 24-70 Sigma lens... Hope it's gonna do the job well. If not, I needed normal zoom for family photos anyway ;)
Will try it with 7d during location scouting next week (don't have 5d2). I got high quality two-element +0.5 diopter, too - if I'm able to mount it on LA7200 somehow, will check if it allows for closer focusing/wider aperture, like some test suggest.

Trez,

I'm about to get the Sigma too, need that zoom anyway, but I don't have diopters. Could you tell us your experience with this Sigma lens and diopters (if you get them to mount somehow) once you tried it out? Thx

Sure I will share my experience once I get my hands on it. Hope the diopter size is sufficient for wide end, too (it's 72mm)...

Woulnd anyone happen to have a 85mm image grab using a 85mm on a 7d?? im planning to buy a LA7200.. but need to know how would it perfom... thanks guys!

I don't have an image to post right now, but at 85mm image sharpness is not good.
The LA7200 being a focus through anamorphic adapter does not have the oval bokeh and is not that great for close ups.
I think it's best use is for wide angle shots, and flares.

In general all anamorphic lenses are bad 'zoomed in' because of the cylindrical shape of the lens element, and may result in anamorphic mumps.

for FCP settings, do i convert my 60D anamorphic footage to pro res (1920x1080 of course) and then in the motion tab use -33 to "undistort" the squished footage to become anamorphic?
