LOL! A Flux Capacitor! Hahahahahahaha!

As of 03/01/2010 The Aftershock Bodycam Maelstrom is...
Patent Pending!:love4:
Patent Pending!:love4:

Now I need to get my International Patent rights and I can show the rig. The reveal gets closer! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

With the patent pending I can show it to people in person with no nondisclosure forms needed and can use it in public with no shots of the device allowed to be posted.

I am so curious about this rig, lol. Can't wait to see pictures.

I will be now working on the build for the microwave signal transmitter/ monitor set up with the Maelstrom. I want the device to be just as useful shooting away from the carrier for action shots as toward them. :engel017:

since most set ups would have an FF you might want to include a remote ff on it, and it would be cool if the controls were mounted on a hand held hd lcd .

You are right about the FF. I think the control position will be a little different though. I have a remote FF but mine has a wire. :embarasse That won't work with this. I have to get some more moolah before I can get the complete wireless setup. I want to have both FF, zoom and signal transmission by wireless microwave type transmitter. This will free me up to do some special things, plus I can send the signal to the Director at the same time I use it to frame the shots on the rig hd monitor. Also, I have a position for the rig batteries so the longevity of the shooting can be longer.

I am gathering the materials for a second rig. This unit will be slightly different and will offer subtle improvement in many areas. Man, this is so fun! :dankk2: For the few who have seen it or had it described to you in detail, think stronger, lighter, lower, and a new twist on a very old idea added to the mix. If it works it will take another patent, dang it... :violent5:

Any chance of seeing some Norris outtakes, in the film all the camera movements were perfect, outtakes might give some idea of learning curve and ease of use.

There are not many shots to include in outtakes. We had a very short time window for the cast and the permit for the location... Also, we kind of knew what we wanted and took most of the takes on the first or second shot.

A real help with that is Matt's creativity and his amazing eye and instincts for a shot. What you saw was what he initially chose for each shot. His abilities make for fast production of a movie, as the cast of STRICKEN can attest to.

Jason, we have a lot of test footage that we took before the cast arrived and we could work up a video based on that to show more of the rig in action.

Best to you! :engel017: Gary

How much did it cost to make? Are you selling it online?

I finally spent around $150 in parts on the patent pending Maelstrom device. I think to make them and sell them retail will be around $400 for a base rig, but I have no idea what the ultimate manufacturer will establish as a retail price. To get all the component parts to do: Low, front, rear, high and Maelstrom spincam, will be more expensive. I am not selling it online as I am still in the R&D stage on something new and amazing that will be another component to the device. And, it will require at least two more patents. Now that I have one patent pending the next two will be easier.

I am hoping to change the game with the next attachment of the Aftershock Bodycam. If it will just stop snowing here and let me have the time to fabricate! :engel017: Also, it will take some larger moolah for some wireless stuff.

One thing is certain, it works VERY WELL. If you watched the short NORRIS
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=200543 you can see some of what the rig can do. The short is actually a beta test of the device and is ALL shot on the Aftershock Bodycam rig components. Some of the rig was not even used in the short due to time constraints with the actors and location.

Best to you! :D Happy DIY-ing.

You probably heard this already but that reminds me of Mean Streets.

Nope, haven't heard that one. The movement resembles the use of snorry's and doggiecams as it is an improvement on the latter. You have reposted the first of three tests of the Aftershock bodycam. This one was using just the static front rig. The second was using the Maelstrom for the first time, and the last of the three was this one:

I AGREE

This third one used the front, back, high and Maelstrom attachments for the Aftershock Bodycam. It did not use the low rig sled due to actor and location time constraints, but we shot over an hour of test footage with all the attachments including the low rig sled that we will post as a music video in the future.

I am in contact with companies that are in the business of making cool things for film makers regarding the rig, and hope one of them will want to be the company that makes it for public use. I am too busy to make these for retail. Whomever gets this will, I think, reap large profits into the future and will have something all the others don't have, along with the patents to be the only one making them for 17 years!

hows the international PP coming along?

I just got back my official paperwork for the pending from the US Patent and Trademark office. It was pending as soon as I mailed it registered, but that proves to me they got it. They approved my rights for International patent. Now for the hard part... International patent rights vary for each country you desire patent rights. The problem is that even with complete international patent rights, some countries will still let their businesses steal the design. I just saw offered on eBay an exact Chinese-built copy of a Glidecam model for 1/5 the cost. I would NEVER buy it even though a bargain That rips off the Glidecam guys so much and is completely wrong. This is probably what I am going to have to cope with. Do I just hold rights here and know the Chinese will steal it, or try to fight for international rights? Hmmmmm.

Hope all is well with you. I am starting to gear up for our next feature to be shot hopefully in spring and summer of 2011 and am researching the construction of one more attachment for the Aftershock Bodycam. I'll PM you info. :engel017:
