Aftershock bodycam

I was able to actually work on the Maelsrom device this weekend and have it almost completed. I have one more attachment point for the device on the waist belt and then it will be done and even painted. I will only have the God's eye view attachment to finish and the whole thing will go to alpha testing.

I will shoot an entire scene with only the Aftershock Bodycam attachments holding the camera and will put it online. I am thinking of... zombies?... ninjas?... zombie ninjas?... dancing zombie ninjas? Dunno...

The Maelstrom device works! A few more tweaks on some struts and it will be perfect. This will do something that has never been shot before. I am very excited!

As before, it goes on fast and comes off fast and adjustments to camera are super fast. Fun, fun fun!

I cut some strut lengths shorter and shortened a vertical... Painted the counterbalance attachment...

It works perfectly! I will shoot a shot with it this weekend; I'll post it here... This will be fun! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Gary you do know that the bodycam system is nothing new, right? Unless yours is so physically different, you cannot patent something that already exist. Looking at a clip you put up, i have seen one that does exactly what yours does. This system has pov has been used thousand of times in movies. So, again unless yours has a totally different construction build then you cannot patent it.

Oh yes... It is actually an old tool to our trade. Heck, Survivorman uses one with each episode. I have made nothing new in my bodycam static attachments except for the ease of use. The new item is the maelstrom device... But who knows... Thomas Edison may have made one! :Drogar-Shock(DBG):

Setting up the maelstrom tonight for test filming tomorrow. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Maelstrom Lives!

Maelstrom Lives!

Filming... editing film... Adding music... I'll upload the vid tonight! Check back.

(I can't wait to use this on our next feature!)

 Kawabunga!

Here is the very first Alpha test video of the Maelstrom device shot on an HV30. No lighting, no time ramping, just me in my living room having a blast!

The Maelstrom attachment to the Aftershock Bodycam could also be used as as if it is a tripod near the target by a cameraman wearing the device.

Imagine a battle scene where the movement of the walking or running cameraman is used for building a feeling of an actor moving through and seeing the carnage first hand with the camera darting back and forth, reversing and pulling back forward extremely fast. Man... That would be amazing. Unlike a steadycamera it can instantaneously reverse shot without the cameraman being in the way, yet gives the human movement on the shot as if from the actor's sight.

I have another attachment under construction that holds a video monitor for the wearer so they have the ability to swing the unit and instantaneously lock onto the target and frame the shot anywhere around the bodycam.

We already have tested some cool two shot abilities and have used the device in a 'day in the life' where I wore it for nearly a whole day while shooting almost continuously. If a person making a personal documentary wanted to, they could shoot all of it with this device and a camera. One of the attachments actually goes into a car and shoots car shots of the driver or passenger during driving.

We are going to test all of these possibilities in 2 weeks with a cast of actors and in various locations, putting together a demonstration film for the beta test.

Omnipocam attachment works! It shoots from above the wearer and can shoot nearly straight down shots. Now on to the camera monitor attachment. This attachment makes the Aftershock Bodycam into a cameraman's tool to shoot other subjects than the wearer for action shots. :kali:

I finished the Aftershock bodycam monitor mount today and included a folding feature to move the monitor in front of me and away from me so I can walk the rig forward with no visual obstruction. This part completes the other intended use of the rig: As a camera platform that shoots away from the wearer.

Construction is finished on all parts. We tested the omnipocam with camera tonight and it will be a very nice angle for the director to select for specific shots. It is really neat for fighting and love scenes.

I am so very excited as to the capabilities of the whole Aftershock Bodycam rig. As I finish all patent work, :lipsrseal Matt and I will be putting the rig through all the paces we can think up in a shoot towards the end of this month.

After this is finished up, I will be working on 'Big Buford'... A new cameraman carrying 30' crane with an attachable 3 axis hot head. I just finished the blueprints for that. Getting all the parts for that will take a while as I scrounge... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I rebuilt the prototype universal mounts for the Maelstrom to make it super easy to take on and off. It goes on in seconds now. I painted the omnipocam and the monitor mount. I will be going to Fresno tomorrow to get the parts to make another unit to loan to a DVXuser for some testing in a film he is going to make. The patent work goes on too. :D

I am hoping to shoot, edit and post a demonstration film to show off the capabilities of the Aftershock Bodycam components by next weekend. :engel017:

Got all for a second improved bodymounting unit.

I finished a design for a low rig for the Aftershock Bodycam. I want the low rig to be usable for shooting below martial arts front kicking. I will build it tomorrow and will be ready for the demo shoot on Thursday in Fresno.

I will post next with the demonstration video.

looking forward to it Gary! But pleeaaaaaase post a picture of the rig! :)

Once patent pending is done I will Simon. We are shooting a proof of concept short this Thursday that will show off all the amazing features. Then we will post that. In retrospect I should have waited until the patent was pending until posting. Then I could have shown the device right away. I was just so excited about it.

Thanks to all for your patience. :engel017:

haha like a patent has ever stopped any of us from making our own versions lol.

I for one an looking forward to copying um I mean admiring your work lol.

LOL! I am just not wanting the big boys to steal it. If they want to buy it, that's cool.

I built the low rig sled today. I have never seen anything like it. I am hoping it will revolutionize the usability of a bodycam lowshot. We'll see when I alpha test it tomorrow after finish welding. I should be able to run full speed and even karate kick over the stable camera with it on. It will flip and follow the runner in the same way. The sled is lightweight and really looks like some sort of alien dune buggy frame. More tomorrow.

This keeps getting better and better.

I'm curious though about all the different "modes" the Bodymount can be in. From how it sounds, there are components that come on and off. So if one wanted to use the Maelstrom, the Omnipocam parts would be off somewhere else? Am I understanding correctly? Sounds pretty cool if that's the case. It also sounds pretty good for marketability, because one could buy the basic unit and then buy new modes later.
