HV20 HDV to ProRes? Black Magic Card?

So it looks as if it is best to (at capture) convert the HDV from my HV20 to ProRes if I am going to be working with Color Grading and such. Does this sound correct to you guys??

1. What hardware setup would I need? Macpro and Blackmagic card or multibridge...would I need a RAID setup for capturing this way? RAID set up for editing in ProRes? Or would 3 HD with software RAID work?

2. Can I convert to ProRes after I captured (w/o BM card). Should I? Or would this be useless and time consuming.

3. Does the BM card/Multibridge add to editing/grading/capturing speed? (Sounds like it does but in real life...does it?)

FCP 6.0.2 allows the capture of HDV as ProRes via firewire...no external card needed.

Capture as Pro Res...don't convert later. But, bear in mind, you need fast drives to handle it. 2 drive Raid or better...FW800, eSATA...internal RAID...well, internal single SATA could handle it.

Hey Shane, will it also remove the pulldown on 24P footage so I can play it in a timeline with my HVX DVCPro720P 24F footage?

Got me there. I had the camera for one day and returned it. Didn't like the focus KNOB. Nice camera, but needs better focus control...and to get it into a nice rig woulda cost another $1000-$2000 that I didn't have. And that knob drove me NUTS. Sticking with my GL1 for now.

24F is Canon only...HVX shoots 24P and 24PN.
