Cost a fortune? Hard drives are the cheapest form of long-term storage. And reliable.
Tape is not a long term solution. Years ago, it was sensible. But it's almost 2008. Times have changed. Technology has changed. Tape's achilles heal is quick obsolescene and huge expense. Now, it is even less reliable long-term.
If you use tape long enough, you will, eventually, get burned.
Hmmm. You may want to call the Department of Defense, the banking industry, Stock Exchange, and many of the larger Health Care organizations . . . all of whom have been using tape for archival purposes for decades. I am certain this will be chilling news to them.
from the original poster: "Seriously, how the heck do you want to backup your P2 footage in order to be able to use it within 10 years?????"
I know, for some, "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" but maybe the question should be how many of us are going to give a **** about footage you shot today, tens years from now?"
BTW, LTO tape rocks!
