... script is bad and simple.

Can you address something for me Macgregor ?

I felt this story lacked any decresc/creshendo (As I mentioned in my initial review). There is zero contrast in this piece. It starts at Volume 2 and Ends at Volume 2. When the punchline is delivered it lacks resonance. It just comes across as a long *Sigh*

Do you think this elelment is imporatant or not ?

You keep saying the structure of the story is done well; but I can't find a story other than narrative prose that drives us forward. Narrative Prose and a montage of beautiful imagery.

It's a music video minus the Pop Song.

I also see remarks regarding "lacking guns, action.." in this thread. Can we elaborate on this ?

Hiro's Syntetic Love really took this concept to another place; the cyclical end was brilliant (and no guns or action either; go figure :P). Have you watched that film ?

I'm not sure who is saying THEY DID NOT LIKE IT. It isn't an issue of Black/White or Either/Or. I see this short works in some areas but does not work in other areas. I love it. Wow. But it simply comes up short after what appears to be a strong start.

--

I would not compare this film to Solaris nor Blade Runner; this is 6 minutes and not even on the same level as those masterpieces.

You should be proud of what you have done with this. But come down a little bit to earth. Rethink your approaches maybe or consider looking at it with new glasses.

EditPhish & Briceman,
I'm glad that you ask me about your shortfilm.
I'll try not disappoint you.
I'll send you my analysis with a private message.
Please, be patient with my english. It will takes me a bit of time.

OK Hudson, you can belive what you want.

It's not about believing man, it's about a subjective opinion, and what Hudson is gathering from your film. Frankly, I do agree with his assessment of the storyline. Someone may see it differently, but I think it is a correct assessment.

John Hudson, I think that you probably give me a good answer. Is only to improve our work.

Do you know why we placed the action in Antartica?

Maybe this is a silly question... but I have my doubts... there are someone that think is not necessary to put 'antartica.summer.the future'.
And I ask myself if is not necessary this title to know the action is in Antartica.

Whenever you can get around to it, that would be great. No rush. Thanks for taking the time! :)

Hey Zacharias, here's your personal invite for Waltind's and my film: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=46501

You can view the film from here, if you've not done so already: http://64.38.14.46/scifest/envision-normsanders-pandora.wmv

I'd prefer to stay away from the PM, and have you publish your thoughts publicly in the above thread, as it's good for both Waltind and I to see, as well as the cast/crew that I've given the link to the thread.

Thanks in advance, & look forward to your thoughts.

BTW, I would NEVER ask someone to personally view my film in their thread, or anyone elses, but since you stated what you did, guess it's the only way to get you to watch it ... like EditPhish and Briceman have done.

I would like for you (Zacharias) to publically review our film as well. Or I can simply put the PM into my thread later, but it'd be nicer if you simply replied in the thread. Thanks!

hahaha! Envision and the rest. I explained bad. When I said 'ask me directly' I meant to send a private message. Sorry! I'm blushing!

I respect your work 100% and look forward to more of it in the future. Perhaps there are 2 different styles going on here; yes I am a Tarantino, Scorsese, Spielberg man...

No I am not into the European cinema of Goddard, Bava, Tarkovsky... I assure this is due to my lack of exposure with these cinema legends than my taste!

I found Constant Gardner and The English Patient to be an utter bore and absolutely loved Shaun of the Dead and In America. So there you go.

If it is any consolation; I am going to spend the most time discussing the works I think are the best and that demand attention. This is one of them.

I'd be stoked to even remotely pull off what you have done; you are at an entirely different level than me brother.

Zacharias ? Your work doesnt require too much improving (Although we can all always improve). I found this inspirational and something to aspire to personally. Except add my ROAD WARRIOR scene and some lasers :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Please do elighten me on the Antartica equation and what does S I M I L O mean ? (Translation?)

Peace !

As I said: my ADRENALINE shortfilm would involve:
- guns
- cars
- girls

So MattC, no only one girl but a bunch of them driving sport cars and firing machine guns is what I want to see next. And forget about deep meanings, yeah! ;]

Can't wait to see it! (As well as the extended version of Similo.)

Don't drop the deep meanings- that's what sets great movies apart IMO- something has has more meaning then just what you first see on screen. :)

I just finished watching all of the films and just sent in my votes.

But before I go to bed, I just had to say how inspired I was by your film.

Simply breathtaking.

When you shoot this let me know, I'll come to Spain!

I'm not very experienced in cinematography, but i liked the look of the film, it looks "pro", like a movie that you can see in cinema. I've seen in the thread many discusions about the story, and this is how i've understand it:

The girl have a robot or android that are able to love (or to simulate it)
He loves "that", but for some reason the robot gets broken in the road (btw, the only thing broken that i can see are the legs, why she doesn't fix it? :/ )
After that she buys another one, but isn't the same.

Dunno why it is placed in antartica but i thing is not relevant for the story. It's about what happens, not where (I suppose, correct me if i'm wrong).

What i want to say with that? ... It's a normal story, with beatiful cinematography.

The only relevance to Antarctica I can see is the isolation. For all we know they're the only "people" on the continent, or (seeing as this is an Antarctica radically changed) in the world. Unlikely (*someone* has to make these robots, and it seems unlikely a loan person could) but that's the feeling.

When I first saw the film, I had to think of the Antarctica subject, but I understood it as we, in our script, built an idea of the world for the next 100 years. In a pesimist vision, the nations would keep their contaminating politics, the globe would raise its temperature until the oceans growed into the continents. People should progressively move to the mountains, where the water shouldn't get.

So, after seeing SIMILO, I thought that, if the temperature of the globe raises, the best places to live would be the North and South Poles. And I think Macgregor has stated this point in one post, I don't know which page.

I´m sure the longer version will explain that, but it's not so difficult to see. It's all about the global warming effect.

Pablo

hey Mac can you tell us why your film was disqualified?

it would have been good to at least know how it ranked. good luck with it in other festivals!
