Affordable counterweight for AF100 rig? Is it possible?

I'm looking to purchase an affordable counter weight for my AF100 rig. I have used a 4lb. Redrock counter weight before and find that amount of weight to be accurate. But I can't bring myself to spend $300+ for what accounts for a brick!

Can anyone post any links to an affordable balance weight that is modular that I can add to as the rig gets lighter/heavier? Does such an option even exist? I can't believe what these companies charge.

Suggestions?

Here's a pic of my counterweight. It is useful, not a "dead" weight

i dunno, you can buy a few cheap-o weights from any sports store, diver weights work very well. Spray paint them and mount then as you see fit, at the end of the day. You paying for the same thing, just looks maybe a few extra screw holes, would be the only real difference.

I've been known to gaffer-tape a weight plate to my rig. I always have a stack to fine tune my crane, and I find a 2lb-er works great. Just never have gotten around to something more modular.

black velcro ankle weights. wrap them around the rails behind your shoulder and you're good to go.
I use a bracket at the end of the rails which keeps them from sliding off. they're available in 2 LBS, 3 LBS & 5 LBS variations. try target. less than $20 for a set of 2.

cheers!
