AF100 now includes 14-140 lens

The af100 is $800 less than what I got the camera for. I was one of the first people in Canada to get one, and I have made enough money using it to buy an Epic. I think the only ones that complain about depreciation of technology are hobbyists. If you buy gear for business, you understand the logistics of running a business and understand that things depreciate. The best time to buy gear is when you need it... not when it seems like you might make money down the road with it.

Amen amen amen.

It was a double ordering mistake. Okay?

I apologize, Jan, I didn't mean to hint at anything, I'm just hoping for a faster 14-140, with some of the improvements discussed here previously.

And for the record I'm working quite a bit with the lens and in good light conditions it's fine. I even covered an event with it a couple of weeks ago and when things got a bit out of control -- people shouting at each other, running around angrily, etc. -- I had no issues with focusing (manual), aparture (auto), or anything else. In terms of run and gun it was not as easy as with my old pd170, but I can't say I missed any important shots. Which in my book is truly a major compliment for this camera and lens combination.

I don't do this full time, only on weekends and evenings and even I am not complaining. Companies dangle carrots for WHATEVER reason. I get what I want when I want it and live with it. Would I have waiting till now to get the AF100 even if I knew I could get a lens thrown in? No. No one MAKES you be an early adopter. In fact, I bet a lot of early adopters enjoyed the awesome playing field of people wanting their material shot with a newer camera. Or rentals. Or any number of reasons.

I don't even want this lens.

Ah, losing out on a 14-140 isn't nearly as bad as the sting of not getting the 8GB P2 cards with my HVX back in the day. :)

Just one of the risks of being an early adopoter, but like bgundu, I'm using mine for profit and while it hasn't paid for an Epic yet, it's paid itself off. I think of the money I would have lost if I waited for a free lens to come with it.

The AF100 was a good deal before this bundle, now its a fantastic deal.

The 14-140 is slow and it has issues when you zoom with it, but it is just as sharp if not sharper than any "L" zoom. (thanks to built in camera corrections)

Hey guys!

It's been a while since I've chimed in here. It's great to be back!

I wanted to give you all the heads up that we have the free lens deal on the AG-AF100 AND we'll throw in an extra battery for free as well! Best deal on the web. If you jumped the gun with another dealer, I'm sure that you can cancel that order in enough time. :)

I'm contemplating selling my af100 at a discount so i can buy this with a lens lol.

I ordered AF 100 Starter Kit with 14-140 lens on 12 April 2011 from B&H India, two months later I was told that the lens is not available, so I chose 7-14mm and paid the difference so I can get the Camera at the earliest.
Now till today June 25th 2011 my order is still under UPS!
I am trying to convince B&H that the 14-140mm lens should be offered to me at no cost as I already paid for the AF100 Kit !!!
Let's Hope B&H will stick to it's reputation.

I'm pretty sure Jan said it's a U.S.A. only promotion so I'm not sure how you're going to make out on that one (unless you can cancel and re-order from a U.S. dealer).
But, who knows? Let us know how you make out.
Good luck.

Thanks!

I feel like a looser:
Gathered money for 8 months for AF100 - the dream camera!
Tried to book it with Local Panasonic Authorized Dealer, they asked $2000 more than the International price for body only!
. . no questions answered!
Tried to book it with B&H India as suggested by Jan,
Needed a lot of permissions, paperwork with government, accounting, customs authorities to transfer the funds to B&H
Finally Booked the AF 100Starter kit with lens on 12 April 2011 !
Waited for more than two months ...
In the month of June B&H replied-no lens available !
..Accepted the Panasonic AG AF100 Starter 'KIT' ( without the 14-140mm 'KIT' Lens)
Waiting for UPS to deliver my camera without the 'KIT' Lens.
Now got to know through THIS THREAD that the lens is FREE FOR USA ONLY!
Still waiting for UPS to deliver my camera at Mumbai, India!

... Ironically, India still produces the highest number of films in the World!

Must thank all you folks for the support!

Ok... We've had some folks that have ordered from us recently and some that were really early adopters that aren't happy about not being able to get the lens. Since this is Panasonic's promotion and not ours, we don't have much control over this.... BUT we'll give you a FREE battery! All AF100 Spec-Comm clients get a FREE battery. You just pay the shipping ($10).

This promo isn't available on the web store so please email me or call in to order.

While it seems as though some of you think that it was me that made this happen, please know it wasn't me, I am a product manager, not the marketing manager, I do work with the marketing team, and the team rules as a majority vote. I knew it would upset early adopters who would then find it to be their right to cast less then pleasant feelings my way. Please know that this is a limited time offer. when the lenses are gone, they are gone, so if you have not bought a camera and you want to equip it with this lens, work fast to make it happen. This is a very good deal, it is not happening around the world, only here in the US. Thanks Shooter for being a voice of reason in this, I really didn't sleep very well last night because of all of this. I am way too thin-skinned for marketing.

Best,

Jan

Well,
I haven't perused the equipment forums on DVXUsers for a long time, but recently bought two GH2s, which I am very happy with, and have been looking at the AF100 now and find myself here again. I was an early DVX100 buyer, and shot my first feature film on it - I loved that camera! Out little production company went on to shoot our second feature on the HVX200, another happy experience with Pannys.

Back then, Jan Crittenden (no Livingston yet) was always a helpful and informative voice of support and knowledge straight from Panasonic. It is good to see that hasn't changed.
Best wishes, Jan.

Since this is Panasonic's promotion and not ours

Gee, that's funny, I thought I remember reading here, numerous times, that "Panasonic doesn't make lenses".

I don't care about this promotion, the 14-140 isn't even good enough to be used as a sea anchor - But HOPEFULLY this means a decent zoom lens is around the corner... Please...

Where did it say Panasonic *made* the lenses? Wasn't it an ordering problem? Do you think Apple *makes* the iPhone? Because I am sure they don't, a 3rd party actually *makes* them.

Please, semantics? I left that kind of discussion behind in graduate school.

That's funny, I didn't have to deal with semantics in graduate school. :) I still don't get what you're trying to say. Just because Panasonic *sells* lenses is a whole different issue as to whether they *make* them, and that's a valid question or point from some people. If Panasonic tells you they are offering this deal because of "a double ordering mistake" that sounds to me like Panasonic "ordered" the lenses from somewhere, implying they don't make them. That's not an issue of semantics.
