GH2 AF100 is getting 1080/60P....

This is a firmware update that Panasonic is doing for a mere $250 for the AF100. My question is: Does this mean we can expect that hack or upgrade for the GH2 anytime soon?

I don't think an upgrade. And from my early reading of the hack, 60p was not possible.

More likely to come in the GH3 (they better :furious3:).

I highly doubt it. I'm guessing the af100 has a better faster processor, and can handle the extra information. I dont know that to be fact, im just guessing, so do your own research. Vitaley would know better than me. Although it would be awesome if it could be hacked to 1080 60p. Chances are the gh3 will have it, that is if they decide to make a gh3.

Far as I know the AF100 always had 1080/60p.

From the pdf:

"...Prior to the upgrade, the camcorder recorded 1080 at 60i, 50i, 30p, 25p (Native) and 24p (Native), and 720 at 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p and 24p native in AVCHD’s highest-quality PH mode (maximum 24Mbps)."

I thought that the AF100 without the upgrade supported 1080 60P but only in overcrank mode, where it would then playback at 24 fps?

Yeah I was hoping that something would be revealed at NAB as far as a GH3, but alas, nothing yet :(

The AF100 always had 1080p in overcrank mode at 60p, but could only be played back in slo-mo at 24p with no audio (which is fine for narrative filmmaking). The new firmware allows it to record 1080/60p and play back (with audio) at 60p for that "live broadcast" look without the interlacing of 1080i.

theoretically, if you can disembowell gh2's firmware its possible to get 60p out of the sensor. even before. but that requires intesive reprogramming which vitaly dosent do. he only alters modules that have been set or disabled. if the commands do not exist in camera, he cant do much.

af100, they probably added a whole new feature that wasnt available previously.

bottomline both sensors can perform 60p. its recording thats the problem

The GH3 is not a NAB type of product. Panasonic Consumer doesn't go to NAB. It's for CES and Photokina, which rumor has it, will be announced at the latter in September.

Hmmm I didn't realize it overcranked to 60p in 1080. But I have not become all that familiar with the AF100, just started using one a couple of months ago. So the hardware had that ability already. Just wishful thinking on my part for the GH2.
