The 501 plates will attach with both screws and jut out slightly forward. The back of the plate is even with the front of the shoulder pad so it doesn't get in the way.

Ah, terrific! I hadn't seen the holes on the base of the v-mount itself. Thanks so much Nate, looks like the baseplate will suit my purposes just fine.

Question, How far back can you push the the camera on the qr plate? Also can you reverse mount it to get the camera body farther back?
