AF100 / AF101 - initial report

Hey Filippo,

Are both the 5d and the AF shot on straight out of the box settings, so the 5d on standard picture profile and the AF's scene files untouched?
Have you had a chance to play around with the Dynamic Range Stretcher yet?

Ok. That's exactly the shots I needed to see to compare it to the GH2's codec implementation. Appears to not have the same issues as the GH2 with overpowering the codec. I'd like to see motion pavement at 1/100 just to make sure, but I don't really think thats necessary.

woot. if mark thinks this thing is awesome then I'm a believer cus he knows his ****

Now thats what Im talking about.

On the 5Dmkii check out lines on car --- fine lines crossed detail, always aliasing and moire. Now study the AF shots - NOTHING.

Nice shots as well Filipo. Good stuff.

I wouldn't write off the built-in codec either, though. We've got no reason to believe it's miles behind just because the test footage has gone with the best possible scenario.

sigh. I want to see some avchd loving.
In the prototypes I've used, I was specifically told that the codec wasn't the final one and that I shouldn't be recording anything with that codec yet. I'm not surprised that what you're seeing posted isn't the native footage.

Also, whether this is related or not I don't know, but there was a firmware update for the HMC150 just issued that somehow "increased recoder performance." Don't know what that means, but it could imply that they've even improved AVCHD performance from what it was, and maybe that's why they haven't allowed us to post footage from the AVCHD portion yet -- perhaps they knew this update was coming? This is total speculation, of course.

i'm expecting good things from the built in recorder, avchd(mpeg4) is arguably around 2 times more efficient as mpeg2, so figure this thing would be like an EX1 if the ex1 were recording 48mbit instead of 35mbit. as it is the 35mbit from the ex1 looks beautiful

Hey Fillippo,

What was mounted to the side of the AF-100 where the hand strap normally would be? I noticed it at around :35 on the video. I'm sure the Nano flash was the unit mounted on the top of the camera. Curious.

Pretty sure that is the nanoflash.

I don't know. It looked as if there was something mounted on the top of the camera as well. If it was a Nano I'm curious about how it was mounted and if Nano Flash made a mount for it that they were planning to release in December as well. Functionality is everything for me these days and I want to use an external recorder that can be mounted to the AF-100's body.

It was the Nanoflash battery!
