:-)
It is up to Panasonic :-)
If they'll provide me camera and firmware we could see some fancy stuff in December.
I just think that they are struggling now.

Thanks Luis... You are right about that. I guess I have some decisions on what to get for a steadicam setup as I'll only be flying the AF100 with wider lenses. Kind of puts it in between on a few things...

I'm sure a lot of people are saving up for this. I just also hope that they release an updated lens like the 14-140. If they did and made it a 2.8 or something I'd be down for shelling out 2K for that baby...

cheers all.

You can *always* add weight to a camera to bring it up to weight for Steadicam.

But once you max out a Steadicam, it becomes very difficult to make the camera lighter!

And more mass = more inertia = more stable.

Just things to think about ... but not really for this thread.

Just having fun. :2vrolijk_08:

Just a though on AF. How usable is it in in AF100 for real shallow DOF? At 1.4 or 2.8, is it going to focus on the eyes or the nose, or the ears?

I really don't know why I'm going to attempt to answer your question, but I quess I feel like a challenge. First, you didn't really supply the necessary variables in order for me to give you an exact answer.

DoF is based off of three variables. You gave me one.

If using one of the most common lenses, the 50mm, at F/1.4 and if you were 10 feet away from the subject, the DoF would be about 6 inches total. That would get the average person's ear and eye in focus. Depending on the length of the subjects nose, however, you might have varying results with the tip of the nose to ear.

Here is a link where you can knock yourself out and maybe learn how DoF really works:

I hope you do.

Don't worry, I will keep you on Permanent Job if you Hack this Damn Thing.

Or ask Panny to do this.

Well, Panasonic already knows you but that is Consumer Division.
You have to do something ( :2vrolijk_08:) now, to be Recognized by Panny Pro division.

I am sure, then you will get the JOB. :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

OHHHHHH MYYYYY GOD!!! NO CAMERA STABLIZATION!!! HOW DARE PANASONIC FORCE ME TO LEARN TO HOLD A CAMERA STEADY, OR USE THE CAMERA STABLIZATION/SUPPORT GEAR I ALREADY OWN. WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?

Please!

Hahahahaha. :)

I feel bad for Panasonic kinda. They are trying to please sooooo many people.

My ideal camera would have absolutely nothing auto, and of course no stabilization. Never used a camera with stabilization I thought was worth it.... except for my short stint as a cameraman's assistant doing MLB games. Those cameras had nice stabilization!

I didn't take this, but it's pretty much what we used... but in white. It really helps when scanning the crowd for hotties. :cheesy:

ps: my job was amazing. I'd just help him set up. Then I'd sit next to the camera and radio/run down to the truck if anything went wrong with the camera... but nothing ever did. So I basically watched free baseball games and got paid. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those times.

Wow. :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

I'm sure I'm among lowest of the low around here, but still, what's with the harumph?

Or did I read you wrong? Are you trying to discuss this or dismiss me? Please pardon me, but I can't tell. So I'll just plow ahead if you don't mind. I'm simply putting out a general question for consideration about the utility of AF in a shallow DOF world. It's kind of a newish thing isn't it, so the question still stands. And this question certainly isn't intended to raise any hackles (and I sincerely apologize if it does).

Now, I do understand DOF (not that I use that understanding to the best advantage in my work yet) and have been struggling with it using a DSLR on a run n gun corporate doc job all summer. So hey, I welcome a solution that works.

To your point: At 5 feet with that same setup you don't have even two inches (on a crop camera). Would that break AF? I don't know. I haven't had a chance to use the AF100 or any other large sensor motion camera with AF. Now we have the AF100 to ask about—apparently, the purpose of this thread. So, yeah. I'm asking. Thank you.

Thanks Vitaly.

As I understand only R24 has 6 inputs with phantom power.
But I may be wrong here.

Btw, I'm another one who will be rooting for you to hack this camera.

Situation is quite different from GH1.
As we have bunch of people here with good relations in pro broadcast division :-)
So, I hope that some pressure can get real results.

Lol, you're not even a dp Tom.....

I love that you're so dedicated to the 10bit cause.

acquisition also means it's going to post production. I simply can't stand 8 bit sources anymore, it's outdated and limited. 10 bit should be the new standard as the BARE MINIMUM. we are moving to new frontiers where 12 and 16 bit are gonna be the primary business model. From the color grade, to visual effects, compositing and keying, every bit matters. If it wasn't true hollywood wouldn't be doing 4k scans, 10 and 12 bit dpx finishing, and working in 32 floating point in their software.

Barry,
How is the focusing compared to using a Letus or other adaptor? Does it have a pixel to pixel zoom for focus?

Somewhere I read this:

So is this a PAL/NTSC (better to say 50Hz and 60Hz with HD world) switchable camcorder out of the box or not? Can somebody confirm it? Then why are there different models (100 and 101)?
Thanks

The numbering differences are relative to. Warranty support.

Hope this helps,

Jan
