'Aetas' - an Epic Medieval Tale

Grabs looking great. Kind of like the love child of Sam Balcomb (subject) and Macgregor (location) :)

Seriously looks cool. Looking forward to this. Red is def. the camera for those exterior sky filled epic shoots.

Are the grabs in post 1 CCed? If not what are your plans for them?

Fire extinguisher packed! But in all seriousness, it's just to look good to anyone that stops. The way in which we are going to use it will be quite safe.
Yeah, I was torch wrangler, so there was nothing to worry about. ;) Now that the surprise is out of the bag, the how-to post will be on making torches. It came out beautifully!

The shooting today went... umm... interesting. Our biggest tip for people is probably this: If your shot depends on the tide (or avoiding getting caught in an alcove by it), be sure to check more than one tide chart. There's a chance you could be looking at last year's chart. :bath:

The location we were going were some shallow caves on the coast that are only accessible during low tide.

The tide charts we consulted were wrong by nearly two hours.

We decided to film anyways, which involved all of us wading through cold ocean (on me it was nearly to my waist), all of our shoes and jeans were soaked. We hauled in the full Red package, tripod, audio, costumes, torch gear, etc. Then shot for an hour and had to haul back through even more water!

But...we got our shots :-)

A BIG shout out to Jerry Turner (fixitinpost) for being generally awesome as well as stepping up today and being an AC/co-DP for the shots.

A big shout out to Ken for resisting the urge to light me on fire.

Lol, oh yeah! Nothing like your Nike's filling with sand and saltwater and staying that way for about 5 hours. At one point I had my iPhone and keys held above my head whilst I waded through the tide. I was just glad I didn't get stuck in the cove!

Ah, a missed opportunity. Imagine the drama of you stuck in the cove with rising waters. Progressively more dire images from the iPhone posted here. It would have been so dramatic and the crew could have started a documentary on the spot. Sigh.

Ok...so after all this teasing I have to see at least on torch grab! Come on man...I need this! Just one, I promise that's it!!!

And I seriously want the "How-to" on building a homemade torch!!!

That was a very real concern!! I had my Red in a Kata backpack so if I had fallen...salt water Mysterium! There were two cave locations, one of which required wading through water that waved up to nearly the hip. I was worried stiff that if we had packed into that location that after an hour of filming the water getting back would have been chest deep (we would have had to wait it out probably). Thankfully we found an alternate cave that looked small but actually went quite deep. Getting out of that took only wading through knee deep because we could then scale up some barnacle and seedweed coated rocks and make our way along a sea cliff to get back to the main beach :-)

That is absolutely hilarious! Awesome dedication! I am glad the Red and your crew survived. Look forward to grabs from location!

Macgregor doesn't have claim to vast desert landscapes :-).

Thanks for the comments! But who is Sam Balcomb? Never heard of him, but it sounds like a compliment!

Btw, I'm hoping you come through with an entry that's real :-)

Ken wanted to stay there and start a fire!

Hehe... I actually wasn't too concerned with getting stranded. We had plenty of fuel for a fire. It would have been an adventure! We could have sat around the campfire on the beach and waited for low tide again. I think that would have been a more exciting story, personally. :P

I'll try to post my torch how-to this weekend. Oh, and my pro-tip for torches in caves: don't. Unless it's a large cave. The smaller one we were in filled up with that black smoke very quick. You should have seen the soot in our nostrils. I was cleaning house for awhile and it was just pitch black.
