1DC: advice needed: 1DX Mark II or 1DC, unsure which to get

I'm personally at a bit of a crossroads/stand still with Canon right now. There is no way I would ever consider spending money on he 1dC being as old as it is. Not even at $6500...honestly, I would not buy it for $3000. Its a very nice camera...but its older tech now.

The 1DX would have nailed it had they put C-Log. Without it...its just not geared towards video. The C300II is great....but I think we can all agree, if it could be 1/2 its selling price and we would all be thrilled. At its current rate....its pretty pricey for what features they do give you.

So I'm just not sure Canon is going to give us the camera we are looking for. I've never been a Sony guy, never owned a Sony camera. Just RED, Panasonic and Canon. I have to say...Sony is definitely getting closer to good. The new A7sII does have a pretty decent color science. I'd love to wait on Canon some more....but I don't think it will be a year.

Honestly, best bang for the buck is looking like a Scarlet-W. I know its more....but what you get is pretty awesome. "If" Canon gave the 1DC C-Log...it would probably tip the scale for me.

Just had a look at the Scarlet-W page and it does have impressive features but could it be more 'sensor in a box'? This design makes DSLRs look great for ergonomics...

Canon 1DC for sale on B and H until end of today. $6500. Looks like maybe a liquidation of remaining inventory??

I noticed this too. I hope this indicates an 1DC2 in the near future (i.e., at NAB)... with 10-bit and C-Log.

Yep, give me a 1DC mkII with similar specs to the 1DX mkII but with a C-log, more audio options and perhaps a better codec (probably not going to happen) and I would be a happy man.
Here's hoping NAB yields something.

After having evaluated the normal picture styles (including CineStyle and Marvel's) compared to Canon Log on the 1Dc, I can say that I would pay $9995 for a 1Dc mkII with Canon Log, 10bit out and the red C badge.

Seeing that the 1Dc was a rebranded 1Dx with pretty minimal changes made to it, I don't think Canon would make a completely different camera if they were to make a 1Dc mkII. But Canon Log and 10bit out should be doable.

Seeing that the 1Dx mkII seems to have strong shadow performance, it is criminal for Canon not to release a Canon Log version of that camera. But I have no hopes for that.

A dream for me would be more of a commitment to the cinema version of the DSLR where they give it more of a nose and upgrade the mount to hold an internal ND filter solution. I don't know how much beefier the body would have to be to include a DV chip (in parallel to the Digic 6+ chips) to allow for XF-AVF and internal intra frame 10bit.

For a 1Dx mkII with Canon Log and internal intra frame 10bit, I would pay $12.000 again without blinking.

To the OP:
My main concern these days would actually be form factor/handling.
Picture wise, you can get far with any modern 4K camera.
As many, I had a year of DSLR shooting in-between HVX and C series and honestly, I just don't want to go back there.
At least not for documentary work.
Hence right now, I'm also starting to consider the FS7, because same as you, I don't have the budget for a C300II.
Well, let's say, I don't want to spend that much for a camera anymore - the C300II is still kind of inexpensive considering what we had to spend on a quality camera a decade ago.

Nevertheless a video shot in the 1DCII I just found:

Andree, the key to the consumer power is the downward price pressure on the manufacturer. If you start at $10,000, do not go up to $12,000 anymore. Whittle the price down. If they ask for $12,000, roll your eyes and proclaim, "Never again!"
