Adobe CS 3 Production Premium Released

I've only had it for a few days (CS3 Production Premium, downloadable upgrade version) ... PremPro appears to work flawlessly along with the latest version of Raylight. There are a few posters on the Adobe forums that have indicated installation problems--guess I was lucky as mine went without a hitch. I have not yet had a chance to test it thoroughly (or utilize the other apps). Note: I was told that you no longer receive printed manuals with the boxed version . . . that you have to purchase them seperately.

I will probably not install it on my laptop (which already has Avid Xpress Pro and Edius Broadcast v4.x)

The near 20-pound box that showed up on my doorstep Friday says differently :)

Yes, there are manuals for every single piece of software included in the box. There's a nice little manual too that contains information on all the apps, that explains and suggests some ways to use them all together in a production workflow.

Interesting (and thanks for the correction) . . . I will have to call them back and exchange words with them, or return my electronic download and order the box.

Peace.

Received mine Friday

My 20-lb box arrived on Firday morning.

Premiere Pro CS3 seemed to work as well as version 2.0.

Initially I had a problem with Encore DVD crashing on startup -- after several hours of troubleshooting I found a conflict with the LightScribe driver on my system. After removing LightScribe Encore ran fine.

I was hoping the new version would include MXF integration in Premiere but it has none. I couldn't even find the OnLocation (DVRack) MXF Batch Converter folks had mentioned here. Either I'm missing something or it's been removed from OnLocation. Since I never owned DVRack, I can't really say.

Raylight works well though.

I exported my HVX movie from Premiere to a 720p24 Encore project, burned a Blu-Ray disc (actually, a BD-ROM directory structure which I then burned to a DVD+R, no less)
and in no time I was watching my HVX movie at 720p on my Samsung Blu-Ray player.

The upgrade is kind of steeply priced considering the lack of new features and the lack of MXF support. But the ability to burn my movie to Blu-Ray made it seem worthwhile.

I would be interested to learn if the new Premiere Pro CS3 overcomes the memory problems I have read about with Premiere Pro 2.0 when doing long form projects, such as a Feature length timeline?

I really don't want to do a proposed Feature coming up in chunks to build a final timeline.

I am out of the country now but have both Mac and PC versions waiting at home to install and test. I am excited about BluRay burning. I have had the beta versions for a while (now that it is released I can disclose) and it is on my review agenda. I personally still prefer FCP over PPro. No time to write about other impressions for the next little while since not only am I out of the country, I have no bags, minimal gear and a massive ticket screw up. This is not fun.

Ned:

Can you work with DVCProHD is Premiere Pro 3 directly?

Also, will Encore encode native DVCProHD footage to blu ray?

The black and white dog is right. One of the things we noitced in the beta was the inability to work with DVCPRO HD without Raylight. I do not know yet on the Mac side at least whether the release version works. Definitely requires Raylight or similar on the PC release version.

Dregenthal:

I was speaking of the Macintosh version, not the PC version.

I'll have a NFR coming in a week, and I'll report back

I havent played with premeire yet, but I got After Effects cs3. and it opens up and plays dvcpro hd just fine. but it only shows up as 720x920 or 1280x1080, and it shows up as 4:3 aspect ratio when you work with the footage, im sure theres a way to strech it out. so it shows in 16x9. just have to find it.

This also happens when you use OnLocation to record direct to hard drive and drop the clip into PPro CS3. It works but it gives you those same messed up aspect ratios.

If you export a frame from OnLocation, it seems to work just fine though:

if i buy the CS3 production premium package will i be able to install it on 2 computers?

or am i limited to just one install?

has adobe upgraded their security with things like this?

(just a follow-up): My thanks to cbrougham for the manuals information . . . I have since received my boxed version, complete with full manuals and am in the process of arranging for refund on my original downloaded purchase.

Two notes of interest: The install, while time consuming, went without a hitch AND ALL THE SOFTWARE APPEARS TO BE WORKING.

Curiously, when I called Adobe and placed the order, their representative told me "they" (he) was unaware that the manuals actually came along with the (upgrade) CS3 Production Premium product.

i'm going to order the premium production package next week but since premiere doesn't support mfx files is there not a way to edit my hvx footage with it?

i use final cut studio anyway, but since this package comes with premiere i was going to try it out.

Absolutely you can, with DVFilm Raylight you can put MXF files in the timeline.

You can also edit MXF files directly in the FCP timeline with Raylight for Mac

Saves a lot of pointless copying and preserves Metadata, and allows you to view Metadata in the timeline
