Adjusting volume in seperate channels

After the ceremony the groom went outside to watch some Mariachis. The Groom's wireless mic was still on and he walked out of range causing alot static with intermittent Mariachi music in the L channel. I had a shotgun mic on the other channel (R). I just need to adjust the volume in certain places on the wireless mic channel (L). I have searched the internet for 2 days looking for the right answer and couldn't find it. I can't be the only person that has ever had this problem. Anyway, can anyone explain how to use key frames on the left audio channel ? Thanks!

Select the clip(s) in the Project bin, then use the "Clip" menu and under "Audio" there's a setting "Source Channel Mappings" that allows you to split out the audio into 2 mono tracks.

Or you can unlink the audio and video from your clip on the timeline; copy and paste the audio onto another track; link all 3 tracks back together; use the audio effect "fill left" on one audio track and "fill right" on the other track.

Or, just razor the clip in the sequence at a suitable point when you don't need the groom's audio and use "fill left" or "fill right" to fill with the appropriate channel to replace the radio mic's audio.

Maybe CS5 is different. In the clip menu under "Audio Options" my choices are "Audio Gain...", "Breakout to Mono", "Render and Replace", and "Extract Audio". H'mm what to do? . Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I'm not current on this feature of CS5.

"Breakout to Mono" and "Extract Audio" would both be valid tools for this task.

Mikko! THANK YOU!!!! i needed only one of my recordeed channels of audio and i could not figure out how to get it. ended up having to do a lot of manual syncing. i KNEW there was a way to do that..thanks. who knew it would be considered an EFFECT!. why dont they just give you the option to unlink stereo files from each other . why does each track's audio profile have to be so strict. but im just glad to have a work around. thanks again. now taht i knwo what it is it kind of makes sense. im still getting used to the adobe way of thikning about workflow.

i also wanted to say that break out to mono and extract audio give you two new files to deal with and keep track of and are never really attached to your picture. fill left/right is the perfect way to keep yoru audio as part of yoru video. im doing interview editing so i like to cut for audio first but still have all the video right there pre-linked and easily usable in the source window, even though the audio seems to still be stereo there, because it is source, pre-effect. but i still dont see why the mixer cant jsut give you separate faders for left and right, with pan pots for each. and what if i want to add in SOME of the other track for ambience or interview questions. not all stereo tracks are stereo. better to think of it as a dual channel source, . am i missing something about how to achieve that easily?

thnx
