Steve Shovlar

DVXuser Sponsor
Hi all,

Since we launched our new Nikon and Canon EF adapters for the AG-AF100 a few weeks ago, several members of this forum purchased them and have been extremely happy with them. So it's now time we spread the word a little.

And in doing so we are offering DVXuser members a discount code so they will save 10% on any of our products until the end of this month. When checking out our adaptors you can save 10% by using the promo code 10percentdvx

So if you are looking for the highest quality Nikon or Canon EF adapters to Micro 4/3, or any of the other products we currently manufacture, stick in the code above and save yourself 10%. We are certainly not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and if you want a high quaity adapter look no further. And the 10% certainly helps!

Thanks Steve, great to hear about your offer.

On a side note, can you guys PLEASE make the metal hot shoe mic adapter you have for the EX for the AF as well? I have a metal & rubber K-Tek mic mount and another brands EX plate and it has probably saved me having to replace a dozen of the crappy plastic stock ones by now.

Thanks

Is the mic holder on the af100 as bad as the one that was on the Sony EX3? I broke my mic holder off the EX3 about two weeks after getting the camera and it was the reason why we make the flat shoe. We have sold litterally hundreds of them! If the af100 mic holder is held on with a couple of screws we can certainly look at making something for it. Let me know.

Back to the adapters we make and our pricing. We make every part of our adapters in the UK (except the screws that hold the bayonet on!) and every adapter is hand finished. These are no "Made in China" adapters. We are only a very small business of 5 people but we pride ourselves with quality before quantity. We could cut corners and produce cheaper adapters but we don't want to. We want to be the best at what we do.

We could make an aluminium bayonet but we don't. It's solid brass coated with chrome and hand polished. The back connector onto the camera could be made out of aluminium like many of the cheaper adapters, but it isn't. Its made of solid stainless steel to give a tight and perfect fit with no wobble. We strive to manufacture to the highest standards and give great customer service. Have a problem with any of our products? We will sort it straight away. In business the customer comes first. Look after them and they will be a customer for life.

Anyone who buys one of our products will know as soon as they open the parcel they have got a great bit of kit, packaged in a great waterproof pouch.

Cheers
Steve

Yes, two screws, just like the EX. In my view, anything that's plastic can and will break. Great to hear your open to expanding the product to the AF.

I can testify to their adapter's quality. Plus they got me the adapter in a rush so I had it for my shoot...from England to Dallas tx in two days. I went with them because the novoflex wasn't available, but I'm glad I did because 1) he answered every nit picky question I had, even busting his chops on the price, 2) there's a lot of pride to produce an excellent product and people with a passion tend to produce the greatest art and products in my experience, 3) it's one solid mother and they coat it with some slick coating that just seems much nicer and solid than anodizing, 4) the thumbscrew is so much more precise to control the aperture with such a short range of motion for the lever, 5) the fit is second to none...it really feels as solid a lockup as nikons cameras. I used it on a shoot with a nikon 17-35 f/2.8 and was very pleased with the results. So not much more to say other than you won't regret getting this adapter...plus the 10% is an awesome deal. Oh, so far I think b&h deals their adapters. But if they're out of stock contact Steve and he may be able to get you one faster.

Thanks for the kind words Bill.

However I would like to point out this 10% offer is for dvxuser members only and the promo code will only work through adaptimax.com.
Best regards
Steve

First of all I'd like to command your effort and determination in launching a company and a product line- I know how hard and stressful it is.
Secondly I would like to plead with you NOT to treat this as trolling- I am just trying to understand this market segment.
I'm an engineer with 25 years of experience in the film industry.
Now the question:
What is it that makes your mount adapter worth 15 of these below?
What makes it so much more valuable?
I understand the overhead cost, QC cost etc. but is it worth 15 times the price?
I would have the same question for Novoflex, Voigtlander BTW...

I think a lot of members will benefit from your answer
This should give you the opportunity to emphasize the strengths of your product:thumbsup:

Please don't get defensive- I'm just trying to understand from the engineering value perspective...:engel017:
BTW no I do not make or have any immediate plans to make a competitive product (Nikon to M43 adapter)
Kindest regards, Jacek Zakowicz, OptiTek.org

Hi Jacek, no problems I can answer your questions. I won't get defensive because we have absolute faith in our products.

We are based in the UK and manufacture right here with highly skilled engineers. In the UK, as I guess in the USA, there's something called minimum wage. (and we certainly don't believe in paying minimum wage!) In china where the cheap Micro 4/3 adapters come from there is no minimum wage. They pay a nothing for everything from raw materials to a wage you or I would not get out of bed for, in comparison to western countries. We could never compete with the pricing of the Chinese adapters. Ever. but we don't want to. If you had a Chinese adapter in your hands and an Adaptimax adapter, it would be like comparing a Zacuto rig with one of those indian knock offs on Ebay. They do the same job but there's a word of difference between the two when you have them in your hands.

Here's a picture of the back of our Adaptimax Micro 4/3.
2-nikon_original_to_micro4-3-code-ADAPAONM43.jpg

Now as you can see its made of stainless steel and fits the camera mount superbly. No wobble. firm and safe and extremely durable. No chance of one of the three "wings" breaking off. Would you trust your very expensive Nikon lens on an adapter with aluminium mount? This little back plate takes time to machine and although we could make it out of aluminium, we don't want to. Because we want our adapter to be the best. We are confident on our adapters and guarantee them for 12 months no quibble. If one of our adapters failed in any way there be a Fedex out to you next day.

Let's have a look at the front of the adapter (Nikon Original to Micro 4/3)

1-nikon_original_to_micro4-3-code-ADAPAONM43.jpg

The bayonet is made by us, as is the quick release. The only part of the Adaptimax we don't make is the screws and spring. Everything else is made in our workshop. The bayonet is solid brass which has been coated in chrome for extra durability. It will last year upon year of solid use. The adapter is made for professionals who expect their equipment to stand the test of time. Our customers include many TV stations including the BBC, right through to documentary film makers and wildlife cameramen. Our Adaptimax Nikon Plus to Sony PMW-EX3 has sold several thousand units since its launch just two years ago.

No, we can't and won't compete with cheap Chinese imports. As for Novoflex and Voitlander and any other of the more expensive adapter manufacturers out there, we believe our adapters are better. Not a single adapter leaves our workshop without being tested, hand polished and finished. When you open the waterproof pouch the Adaptimax arrives in, you cannot fail to be impressed with it.

Our adapters are NOT cheap, but they ARE great value and if you are a professional who wants the best, wants reliablilty and wants great customer service, then Adaptimax is the brand to buy. Hope that helps and answers your questions. Happy to answer more.

PS I have looked at your site and see you manufacture a Nikon to Red One adapter. $750?? Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars??......just kidding I think you really know just what a really high quality adapter costs to make.

What is the USD price shipped to West Coast?

Hi David,

if you buy directly from us and use the promotional code, the price of the Adaptimax Plus to Micro 4/3 would be £263.50 including Fedex International Priority ( three days max door to door) or £248.45 with Royal Mail International Signed For. ( Approx ten days)
I always recommend Fedex as it is quick and has full tracking.

All adapters are in stock.
Best regards
Steve

I actually own the voightlander and the adaptimax and while the voightlander is very nice and solid lockup, it doesn't feel as solid as the adaptimax which does weight a few ounces more. Also that chrome coating on the brass body has a slick solid feel to it that the anodizing on the voightlander just doesn't compete. I went through the same thought process of how the heck can these things really be worth that much more...well they are hand-crafted and are really very solid. It really is just up to what is important...is the novoflex not as good...well I think the single solid piece of the adaptimax is better and also I prefer the precision of the thumbscrew to the ring on the others since you know that the aperture will not change if bumped or otherwise handled. You have to literally turn the thumbscrew in order to change aperture, but if you grab that ring on the novo...its very easy to change the aperture and tough to get it precisely back where it was.

I was excited to see this link, but my excitement shriveled upon clicking the link. The only thing that would help is a competitive price against the Novoflex. You might want to market to folks who earn in £, not $. That's $500 for an adaptimax adapter when we can get novoflex from B&H for $300. Blah - Novoflex will do the job, just fine. The difference between a $5000 suit and $20,000 suit isn't noticeable except if you look at the collar! I don't think anyone would call Novoflex cheap. It's QC-ed properly.

Well unless the US dollar has collapsed overnight against the UK pound I am not sure where you get $500 from! The Adaptimax is approx $380 when you apply the discount code on the first page. And it is easily $80 better than the Novoflex.

Thanks
Steve

I did the conversion mentally.
But now I went to a universal currency converter:

265.00 GBP = 426.014 USD
Plus $60 in shipping, sir = a cool oops, my mistake $486 -$42 (10%) that's $444, right? So I'd be paying 144 more. Shipping is free over here. Oh, I'd gladly pay $380, but it's actually $444.

Look guys, the adapter is worth whatever people will pay for it...gosh lets not get into "why is zacuto so expensive" debate here. I think it is better made than the other adapters...if you don't like the price, then its not for you and you very well will be happy with the novo. But don't bash a small company making a niche product for wanting to see a little return on their investment to offer us choices. Its a very good product and I for one don't regret buying it. With all the taxes our friends on the other side of the pond pay, its a wonder anyone stays in business.

Pardon me, but stating the price of the competition isn't bashing. Like I said, I'd pay $380 for it, especially since esteemed folk sing its praises. However for the impecunious penny-pinching independents like moi, $140 isn't anything to sniff at. Were I as liquid as you seem to be, I might just jump, too. But it does seem as if you're defending not just the product but validating your purchase. Unnecessary. Right now, I'd spend my extra $140 on media or put it toward lens. Friends on the other side of the pond can sell to folks on that side and give US based cousins US prices. That's what most of the companies do. Offer to US-based DVX users at $380, I'll order it tonight.

Actually you said you shriveled when you saw the price...which would insinuate a palpable disgust at the price. And that is fine! I had a similar surprise at first so I apologize that I didn't allow you to feel it unrestrained. It's a very good product and it is better made than other adapters out there, maybe too well made because that price does seem shocking at first. But just like zacuto, that shock passes and if you choose to buy it you will not regret it. I chose it because it was available and I liked it's design better. When I got it in hand, it was clearly a very well engineered quality piece and I felt much more justified that it was a great choice because of that.

Oh! Steve, don't you offer 30-day return on it too? Which means I could still return mine, but I'm not going to because I likes it!

That is incorrect again.

The price for the Adaptimax Plus is £265 minus 10% DVXUser discount. So the current price of our flagship adapter is £238.50. Typing that into XE.com and at the time of typing this it equates to $383.50.

You do have to receive it via Fedex ( £25, $40 to USA, the actual cost price Fedex charge us) We also send out Royal Mail International Signed For at £9.95 if you don't need it in 2/3 days.
Postage is irrelevant anyway because it is out of our hands and nothing to do with Adaptimax. When buying anything abroad of value you pay postage and we keep it to the price we are charged, and it is of course fully insured. You won't get free postage from the UK to the USA with Fedex from any company.

Best regards
Steve

Here's a deal.
B&H sell our products. In fact they sell out within two days of receiving them from us (Wish they would place a bigger order each time so they don't run out but it's not my call). I have an order heading out to them on Monday and it will arrive at their warehouse on Wednesday.

The price of our Adaptimax Plus Nikon to Micro 4/3 at B&H is $399. It's not $380 but you will avoid postage charges if as you say shipping in the States is free.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/751287-REG/Adaptimax_APAPNM4_3_Plus_Nikon_to_micro.html

Can't be more helpful than that. No 10% discount through them but you will pay "US prices".

Hope that helps.
Steve
