Acrylic Skater dolly

Would it be in violation of the patent if you make them and give them away ?

Looks fantastic...wish I had your tools and talent. What a fantastic tool to add to the arsenal.

Peace,
Larry

What a great idea

What a great idea

I never thought of that. I could spend hours a day in the shop and just give up on film making.

Plans and such

Plans and such

I am trying to attach a ZIP that includes instructions in PDF format as well as the CAD drawings in the original DesignCAD format and in AutoCAD DWG. The ZIP also has the rotator scale art in Illustrator and EPS format and an XLS parts list.

Some of the individual files are larger than what I am allowed to upload even zipped by themselves. Could a moderator jump in and let me know if there are any other options?

The full ZIP is 2.3 MB

Thanks

Once more into the breach

Once more into the breach

I had to change my plans to accomodate the limited size of files I can upload. I cut some pics out of the PDF instructions and converted the labels to jpgs. That will make them easier to view but harder to print to scale.

As promised the CAD files and instructions are uploaded. If you need help with tools check out the sites for Highland Hardware and for Harbor Freight Tools.

Amana Tools makes great router bits but so do White Side, CMD and others.

Use lots of clamps.

Log in first then download. I have to assume that you are not automatically logged in. I can download the files so they are valid.

Yeah, I checked that out. I like your rig....especially the tabs that the wheels bolt through. They allow you to run the camera support lower which is a definite plus. I almost copied your design in plastic but decided that I wanted a bigger area for the label. Maybe with your lower base you can add a rocker like the one on mine and have the best of all worlds. Change the supports as needed. I like the high angle on the gun shot and that would be hard to do on a low angle rig.

That is a helluva lot of work shaping all that aluminum. I know, I have done it before. Great work and good shots.. I have been in the shop so long that I feel like I am loosing touch with the outside world.

I'm going to try and post a clip from the skater tonight. I don't suppose there is any option to host it from this site is there?

Thanks a lot mlimbolimbo!

Yes, the bigger area for the label is much better and the rocker is that's what I want to DIY in the future! ;)

:) Yeah, there are a lot of good Footage from different producers and in different formats. Needs a lot of time to look on all this shots.

:nads: Hehe... now you have to build the laser pointer! That makes the shot's much more easier.

New footage

New footage

I got a last minute call to assist with a music video shoot this weekend and we got to put the skater through its paces for a few hours with a Sony HDW900 mounted. I thought that maybe someday I would put a heavy camera on it... I didn't count on someday being so soon. It worked great and the rocker held up great. You could force it to tilt which worked to our advantage for speed. the base did not flex at all and the skater tracked straight as long as we were carefull to set the wheels correctly.

I don't have the Raw footage from the HDCam but this is a link to a minute of footage of the shoot. http://www.mvmh.org/equipmentdemos.htm

That is the hottest turtle footage ever. :) Seriously, nice looking setup. Very nice. I shall never use my lame mdf skater again out of respect.

That is just plain awesome. I like that you have a rocker installed. I made one from the plans found hear and there is alot of work that goes into one. I would love to see your CAD drawings. Here are a couple picts of my Skater and the ramp levels I put together. Cost for the levels 40.00 ( homedepot )
