AC90: AC90 Barry's Book in Europe and Action Sports Settings

Apologies for duplicating a thread, but just wanted to know if Barry managed to get the book to his European supplier? If not will happily purchase from the US Amazon but would prefer the faster option to the UK.

Also just in case it has to be by snail mail we would really appreciate some tips on settings and focus for keeping fast moving subjects looking sharp as we'll be away and filming again soon (before the book is likely to arrive) - we're sports coaches and learning the video ropes and also new on here so thanks to all contributors as this forum has already helped loads. Have purchased a couple of ND filters which has already improved things no end.

For constructive critique on camera use, in case any of you have some spare time, here's the first coaching video we filmed with the AC90: http://youtu.be/0hwOi6HA8yA

If you want to get it soon, I'd recommend just going to Amazon USA, as I can't yet say when they'd be in stock in Europe...

The problem with getting it from Amazon US is the shipping.... Can some one give Amazon or Panasonic a nudge about selling it to the UK. Is it worth getting together and buying a box of them direct from the US publisher and splitting the costs?

EDIT. Ignore that the shipping now looks reasonable. Last time I must have hit a wrong button as I am sure it was a LOT more for the shipping!!!!

Many thanks chaps. Thanks Barry, ordered and winging its way over. And yes now the shipping rate has dropped considerably, at least when you sign in with your amazon account.

I am glad it was not just me. I was stating to doubt my sanity on the shipping. Now sit and wait the two weeks for delivary

Got Barry's book from the US to the UK (6 days despite Amazon saying 14-21 days).

The book is not cheap. Then a little disappointed as it is not very big ( 5*7) and only 170 pages.... However on first skip though I am already finding things that justify the price tag. Clearly Barry may have written a book before and even used a camera for real :-) Being a small book actually has advantages as I can fit it in the camera bag.

My only real complaint is that Panasonic UK did not follow Panasonic USA's lead and put one in the box. Then again Nikon UK do helpful things that Nikon USA don't do so life is swings and roundabout

Unless you have had extensive training on the Panasonic video cameras or his book on another Panasonic camera, Barry's book has such a huge amount of vital professional information its hard not to have one. I for one just worry about loosing mine. The scene files alone would take someone an incredible amount of time to figure out.

Unfortunately there has been limited discussion on these forums about the scene files, because they are mostly extremes. For instance doing green screen work I lowered the all the detail settings to -7, but I was guessing on gamma and everthing else.

I agree completely with Steve. Not tried the scene files yet but there is a wealth of information in the book. As I suggested above it is clear that the book is written by some one with experience who really has used the AC90 seriously. It is not just "a better manual". It is going to pay for itself very quickly.

My one thought is that if everyone is complaining about the inability to use the screen and viewfinder together why didn't Barry shout about this on the Beta? It could have been modified before release. SO are we all missing something and just not using the camera correctly?

It was never an option to have both on simultaneously. I did my share of feedback and I fed back about that one extensively, especially because you can't make any menu changes when using the EVF. But I was told the hardware didn't support both being active, and that was the end of that.

Well that seems to kill any idea that it can be fixed with a firmware upgrade :-(

Did Panasonic give any reasons why it works that way? Especially given your extensive feedback. IT appears to be the main gripe about the camera.

The only solution (when out of warrantee, if I still feel strongly about it ) I can see now is to physically disable the microswitch and have an external button for it. Then I can swap easily with the LCD in the out position.
