GH2 about to finish shooting my feature :)

Probably this solution is more appropriate when using a rig, a tripod, cage, etc.
Regards

Yeah thats the same thing I was thinking. If/When I do rig up a DSLR then I'd probably turn to this solution since I still have my Panasonic Batteries.

BTW, while i'm being asked here in Israel what DSLR i'm using it's usually goes:
-"what, 5D? 7D?...er.. what's a GH2?...(puzzled)".

so i guess i have a huge advantage on footage resolution and quality here ;)
all indie productions use the 5D.
above that it's only RED. AF100 is still too fresh here.

You can thank Panasonic for that... Went to their booth at NAB... asked, facetiously of course, where's the GH-2... got a 'oh, that's in the 'consumer' division, and not a professional camera'...

So, don't expect anything to change any time soon...

But you don't need to go to Israel to find the 'Uh??' when mentioning the GH-2... Canon has bought the minds of pros and prowanabees everywhere...

No one I've talked to that isn't heavily involved in DSLR video research has recognized my GH1 or the GH2. Frankly I don't care: it may not be well known, but the images are awesome, and that's what counts.

this is very exiting- a camera that in many film-making ways tops the 5D,
and NO ONE USES IT !!!
i mean, we're in a limbo heaven in terms of getting a close to AF100 footage quality- (some say even flatter) :)
that a HUGE advantage in producing a different and individual look (in a good and better way) for our screened projects.

I'm working on a short where I shot all of the shots on the 20 except for one, and only one, on a Canon FD 50mm. Personally, I don't know that I could find that shot if I weren't looking for it. That short should be ready in a few days, so when it is, I'll post it here and you can take a look.

This is the short film I just finished. Most of this was shot on the Panasonic 20mm f1.7, a few shots were the 14-140. One shot was shot on a Canon FD f1.7. I'd be interested to see if it sticks out/doesn't match the rest, so please try and find the one shot.

My guess is the shot inside the cafe? But just wanted to say well done. Cute film. The fact it was made with so little crew and on a 1k camera blows my mind. These are great times. There are no excuses anymore.

+1.

Congratulations!

It's scary how good this looks. Btw., what did you do for sound?

Thank you very much! I recorded separately on a Tascam DR-07 field recorder with a long AudioTechnica shotgun mic on a boom. The only crew member we had was the boom holder. I also had a wireless lavalier on the girl in the restaurant.

I just finished shooting a 5 minute short on sat/sun last week all with the GH2 using the 20mm panny and fd 50m 1.4. CColton's short made me feel a lot better about using those lenses together. Going into it i was afraid that they would be drastically different, the pancake being too sharp against the FD. Looking at my dailies, it's really hard to see the difference between the two. it is slightly noticeable, but anyone who isn't looking would never notice. If i were to do it again I think I'd invest in a wide FD, 20mm fd?, and save my 20mm panny for interviews and docu stuff.

The production had little to no budget, the crew mostly composed of film school grads and some reality industry ppl. Out of the entire crew no one had even heard of the GH2. We had it rigged up on a 22 inch hdmi computer monitor the entire time. During the shoot, the crew was blown away by the camera. Even saying the 5d/7d didn't look that good. We'll have to see how it comes out after post. Overall it's a joy to shoot with.

Thanks. The sound is good here, and I wanted to know how you got it :). Pretty amazing what you can accomplish with a skeleton crew. Dang, fewer and fewer excuses not go and do that project already! GH2, a couple of lenses, some minimal sound gear and off to the races. I can imagine doing something with just a crew of three: (1) DP-CamOp-Dir (2) Sound Person (3)General grip/light holder/continuity/hold-this-guy.

roei z... are you able to sneek peek a scene or two for us to sample?

I would gladly do so,
But I transcode and edit on a lower offline quality..
So it's either screen grabs or a pure MTS file at the moment.

* i could gather up some shots and re-transcode them on higher quality.. once i'll finally have some time.

Not only can I imagine it, but that's how I want to shoot. In my mind most film crews are the equivalent of McMansions. How many families really need three bathrooms or four living areas? And how many film crews really need 40 people working on them? I also see the movement from big crews to small crews as being similar to the shift from Big Bands and Orchestras in the Music Industry to Trios and Rock Groups of 4 or 5 people. In my mind film is now entering the late fifties and the coming decade is going to be for video what the sixties was to music. Okay it might not be quite the same but you get what I'm saying. Rock on!

ok, i've prepared a 2 minute 1.7g .mov file (DNxHD codec)
gathered some untouched shots from the footage.
someone please tell me how to upload and share this file size.

thanks.

Don't know about that... the usual 'freebee' file sharing sites have like 100-500 MB limits...
