About Matte Box, Lens And Follow Focus...

I have a mattebox from Cavision that I bought last year and I want to use on my 7D with a follow focus.
When you try to use the follow focus the front of the lens moves forward pushing the mattebox.
I don't know if I'm mistaken, but I've seen lenses that only moves the internal mechanism without pushing the lens forward to focus.
Am I mistaken? If not, what's the reference to those lenses?

Thanks

Hi Polanski,

Different lenses will work in different ways. Some feature "internal focus" where the front of lens does not rotate or shift at all. Others definitely move in and out.

Many zooms will also extend or contract as you move through the focal lengths.

Quite Right. It just depends entirely on the lens. The problem here is that we're using stills lenses for motion work. In stills world, external movements during focusing just don't matter as much (but still annoying, let's make that clear).

Which Cavision matte box are you using? You might be able to pull one of the adapter rings out which will allow for the lens to breath a little between the matte box so it's not pushing on it, or you might be able to use a soft rubber adapter ring.

Cna anyone tell how this mattebox is mounted? I have a similar Chrosziel I'd like to mount in my pending DSLR setup.
