Sounds like it is best to try before buying or buy a group and only keep the best one as there seems to be some variation between cameras.

If the color science of the a6300 is the same as the a7s ii you wont get a "out of the camera" match with the FS7. In post you can get them close. Maybe with a color chart and vectorscope dialing in a profile might be possible but that requires a lot of work.Appreciate the response, but I'm looking for "a6300 as "B" camera for 2 camera interviews with FS7". I think you can set a6300 to some setting that corresponds to a setting with the same name as FS7? Do they match? What setting do they share? Thanks.

Alright will take some time to play around with it if I can and try to get them to match better. Otherwise it might just go back to the store. Debating on trying to sell my A7R MK I and return the A6300 and get an used A7R MK II and keep the A6000 as the backup cam, but not sure I will be able to find a A7R MK II for cheap enough. For the magenta in the A6300, I use the white balance filter/value control, and warm it up a bit towards the red/yellow. Just a bit.
Yeah after shooting with the FS5 and A6300 today it seems like the color science is different. My A6300 Slog 3 seems more flat than the FS5 and when using the Sony Slog3 to Rec709 they dont match, the A6300 seemed to have more magenta. These were very unscientific and rushed tests today but still it was a noticable difference that needed to be adjusted in post to match. Both shooting Slog 3 with the S-gammut3.Cine color mode. And do the A7S II and A7R II have different color science for getting them to match to the FS5/FS7?

Looking at a a6300 to be a "B" camera for 2 camera interviews with FS7. Anybody already doing that and NOT recording S-LOG? If so, what settings allow for an easy match? I'm not after filmic beauty, but a MATCH. Also, can you set A6300 to Free Run for at least a fairly close time code? Thanks.
S-Log3 has to match. If you see contrast differences, check if video vs data levels were used. They are the most likely cause for this!
That's for contrast. Color is a different topic![]()
However, the camera fails expectations in several ways. Although the sensor dimensions considerably exceed the requirements of both HD and UHD, the scaling to produce HD and UHD images is unsatisfactory. Resolution at UHD is only adequate, but aliasing is unacceptably high. Similarly, at HD the aliasing is sufficient to cause problems in low bit-rate coding.
The dynamic range is about 9 stops in standard ITU 709 mode (without knee), 11 stops in S-Log 2, 13 in S-Log 3. This is unsurprising since the camera uses only 8-bit recording.
Noise levels are consistently higher than acceptable, and noise reduction is too ineffective to improve things adequately. Only at ISO100 or ISO200 could the camera qualify for HD Tier SP, using EBU R.118 requirements.
The sensor is evidently scanned, the so-called ‘rolling shutter’ effect. Rotating motion is very poor.
