a6300 news

For you personally, or are you basing this off of what youve read? Because Ive read of alot of people complaining about overheating in both 4k AND 1080p.
My copy is still on a UPS truck. I've read and seen videos of tests that show it didn't overheat. I don't shoot continues so if that causes overheating it won't effect me. Rarely would I have the camera rolling for more than 10 min. If people are locking down or shooting an event/speaker then a better camera option might be needed. Sony has me going a little crazy. They put this crazy good AF system in a camera with crazy bad rolling shutter. You know the AF will be in the next a7r III and a7s III sooner than later.

I've had great luck with Texas Media Systems, got the A7rII and A7s the day they were released. They're a sponsor and a great group to work with, when I buy new, I buy everything I can from them. Hit them up - they always tell you when the next shipment is coming and if there are units available. They're not some giant faceless corporation like Amazon or B&H, you can call and chat with Clint or Terry anytime.

Yea I love those guys I got my pocketcam from them and pre-ordered the ursa mini there before BMD decided its not all that interested in shipping it. I will give them a shout, thanks!

My buddy gets his in tomorrow so I will prob bug him to do some tests until I get my hands on one. Also hoping my Raven ships tomorrow so it can test filled week starting Monday.

Mine didn't make it on the first wave, hopefully it ships soon. The overheating wasn't a big deal for me with the A7RII, but I could easily hit the rec time limit and restart before the camera shut down. If I can get multiple 1-2 minute takes consecutively I'm good. The rolling shutter worries me more.

Still auto focus with the a6300 and Sigma 18-35 and Metabones adapter is the best I have seen so far. It does a strange image shift right before it locks. Probably need a Metabones update. However it doesn't hunt just takes a tad longer than native and I mean fractions here. I'm very pleased to finally be able to use AF in stills with this great lens. Need to shoot more but I feel I won't miss shots due to life long AF hunting. Now to test video AF and face tracking.

Anyone know how the 1080p quality is? I assume there is binning/skipping/cropping in some or all 1080p modes? That's one of the things that always turned me off about the a7rii...

BTW BH has the kits in stock at their warehouse. I was pretty skeptical about that kit lens, but trying it for a minute in the store I could see it having it's uses considering the incredibly small size and good AF. Might be handy on a gimbal or drone especially if there is a way to remotely operate the zoom servo.

I agree I have used it as the main cam on a paid shoot already and I am in love. I just need to pickup an external recorder for 4K and I am all set

Got the A6300 a couple of days ago. Loving the quality so far - very similar feel to FS7.
Wow that's a strong statement. Glad to hear.

If you have both, I'd be interested in seein a dynamic range test (set up a scene similarly on both cameras, and shoot it properly exposed, underexposed 3 or 4 stops, and overexposed 3 or 4 stops). Because even if both have slog3, if I understood this correctly the slog3 version on the a6300 (and a7S II) is much more limited in terms of DR (no improvement over slog2).

If I can get my hands on one this week I will see if I have time at work to do a test. Even after all the things I've heard im still tempted to pick one up as my gimbal and B cam (plus I'll finally have 120 fps to go with my F3)

I have yet to see a6300 footage that looks really good, not to mention stellar. Everything I've seen so far is mediocre to OK at the very most.

Does the A6300 crop the sensor when shooting 120FPS?

Been scouring various forums - some have said yes, no, x1.1, x1.9, x2.2...

Can't find a solid answer regarding this...
