A plea to Panasonic....Please read and add your name if you agree.

I'd have one of these straight away - but let's be honest with each other, Panny isn't listening. We've been on this topic for 2 years at least and I've never been more sure that we're being totally ignored. The only way to make Panny listen now is to buy something else, sadly.

Yet it's obvious that Panasonic isn't listening. And I may be way off base here, but I imagine a company just like many I have worked for in the past. Where there is a lack of internal communication, and a rejection of profitable ideas by the decision makers who are fixed in their ways.

Yup.
I've been a Panasonic user for years. My newest camera is a Sony.
Good luck on your quest, guys. But don't hold your breath.
BTW, JVC may have actually designed the camera you want. Micro 4/3 mount on a 4K S35 sensor:

Their whole line looks interesting, and I'm really hoping they don't suck. JVC may well be my next camera if nothing better comes along.
The only trouble with that cam is it looks like a copy of the weird Nikon mount thing they did for Japan only - and they tried to charge $18k for it!

I'd love for the AF200 to simply be an AF100 with a GH4 sensor.

Heck, even a AF100 with a GH3 sensor would be better than what we have now. So sad when you use the GH3 as a b-camera on an AF100 shoot and the $1000 camera looks better...

Some might forget that panny actually (supposedly) took in a lot of shooter input while making the af100, at least thats the info that was spread. whether or not it was during development stage or just the final tweak stage i really don't recall, but at least on the surface panny seems more open to user input than some other big names

That, and i recall them having no the best financials recently, which would likely limit their resources

Count me in. I have been all Panasonic for awhile now (GF1, GH2, GH3, AF100, AC130) and it's about a year before I will be looking to upgrade - but if they don't come up with something like you've described, I'll look elsewhere. Currently buying Nikon glass to begin easing the transition.

In terms of specs the JVC GY-LSX2 has some really intriguing figures to offer. Not only is it very small and looks very ergonomic to handle, but it offers 4K with frame rates up to 30p as well as a slow motion feature at 2K resolution that will go up to 240fps.

The footage is being recorded internally with an h.264 kind of codec.

Given JVC’s history in sensor design one can expect the lowlight capabilities to be at least acceptable.
The quality of the footage itself looked very impressive. There was a 4K screen nearby that showed helicopter footage with great detail. While the brilliance of other 4K footage recorded by a RED camera on a second screen also nearby couldn’t be matched, the results were quite remarkable. This footage is yet to hit the internet.

The JVC GY-LSX2 is announced with a price point “under $6000″ and to come at the end of 2014. https://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=24946

Very similar to a Canon mockup I did.

Guess we're all on the same page. My hope is that these things aren't $5000+ when we eventually get them. We used to be able to get a DVX100 for $3500 new. Why can't we have a similar camera for a similar price with a large sensor? Especially when it doesn't include a lens.

Agreed. The market has changed. This isn't viable, IMHO for an above $5K price point. Given the pricing and capabilities of DSLRs (GH4), I think this would still be a great camera for those who appreciate what such gear brings and don't want the hassles of DSLR shooting, but the price has to come to where the market is increasingly headed. Give it to us for $3000, and I'm in - they'd sell a boatload.

A powered, YAGHed GH4 will still tip the registers at ~$3500, an XLRd A7s may be north of $3300, so $3k for an AFish product would be nice, but undercut both of those severely. I'd expect such a thing to run $5-6k even if it's "just" a PX270 with the lens lopped off.

Don't forget that there also isn't a need to rig up any external recorders for folks who want something other than 8bit 4:2:0 (which more and more people are clamoring for). And for folks who want 4k 10bit 4:2:2, that's going to be, what, another $2k?

The FS100 (which is 6 months newer than the AF100) is still going for $4k on B&H, the FS700 is going for $7,700, and the C100 is going for $5k on B&H. That tells me that a PX270 with the lens lopped off, with a 4k m4/3 sensor and the AVC-Ultra family of codecs, could easily fetch $5k-$6k and still be a relative bargain for what it is.

The thing that makes the FS700 so valuable to people shooting narratives is the RAW workflow and from what I read here, it's getting better. The more I think about the next camera I need, the more I realize that there are lots of narrative jobs that will require it. Even if it's overkill in so many cases. I've found many who prefer Scarlet for that purpose.
