Nice! Congrats...

OK thread deleted for a while after I found out we weren't supposed to announce until they did Monday.

So much cool stuff for you guys, but swamped and have a client over editing all day.

Can't wait to tell you about the film we screen in front of, our screening slot, etc., but in the interim I'll just say we're pretty stoked.

Here's the new / official poster for now though. More later.

That sounds awesome Jack! Congratulations again :)

Not sure if it was intended, but your Poster shows the Film you screen before...

Jack and Wrightsville Beach crew, congratulations! Can't wait to hear more about this DVXUser short that went to the show!

I may be organizing a Fat Monster Shack for Park City. Trying to coordinate around a forensic job. Anybody who would be interested in throwing in some bucks for a condo please PM me!

Yeah it's THE opening night Red Carpet event. The only one of the fest. So stoked.

Simon, yeah, realized the poster gave away the basic info. Want to post some more about that film and what the screening slot means for us too - in one sense it means that Ron Perlman may staring at me while we discuss our little short before sceening his feature. More to come. Also more on the crazy amount of media and materials Slamdance wants, what it cost, etc. Too busy today thought, but can't wait to get into it.

Really hoping Fat Monster can make it. That would be sweet on several levels. More later ...

This is REALLY awesome man. very proud of you!

Fat Monster has the right idea, you go in on a condo when you do Park City, or you pay out the azz. Wish i would have seen this post earlier (I looked for it when it "disappeared") I couldve help you with some tips. ah well. First year I did the Dances I stayed in an apartment with no furniture in SLC for cheap and rented a car. Absolutely hated that drive through the (1' per day) snowy mountains. In '08 we got a condo and cast/crew of schism all split which made it extremely affordable and very close to all the action.

Seriously, I would so love to get to the US and get to see how it all runs at slam dance. Big job starting end of Jan through April, hope theres something cool after that as I will have a month off. What I want to do is come over and work with some guys on a fest entry, that would be awesome.

But back to JDS and LMTF. Jack your doing some great things, you deserve this and more. Well done.

Thanks Noel  :)

Moving to Austin end of January. Lots of DVXusers there. SXSW is in March, maybe come over for that!

Thanks dood. Yeah I totally know the Condo is the way to go. I worked at Sundance in '98 - that was so sweet, me and one other guy in a two bedroom house at the base of a moutain with a hot tub. All furnished by Sundance. But anyway - I know the housing sitch is bananas. So as soon as I heard I was in I panicked and did exactly what you did the first year. Got a place in Salt Lake and got a rental car. Both together will only cost me around $600 for 10 days because I got them so early. I was also careful to get a place on the 30-40 minutes away side of SLC as opposed to the 45-65 minutes away side. Also some people have popped up with Condos etc. for a night or two here and there so I may be able to do that. If Johnson gets people together I will likely forget about my SLC accomodations and chip in with him.

Basically I would have loved to do the condo thing, but while I found out like a month ago, you don't know who the other filmmakers are until last week or so, and I felt that was just too long too wait. So not knowing when I was screening or who else would be there, I booked the cheapest thing I could find for the whole 10 day fest, but in SLC.

I should have hit you up though, I knew you went out there with Schism, but forgot about it. I've been too busy but was planning on blogging about accomodations there.

Poster swapped out yet again. Slamdance gave us wrong info. So the poster was wrong. Basically first showing date / time was wrong. Actually they've screwed up so much with communication type stuff, that it's made me feel at home, like I'm in a good old DVXuser fest  Just kidding. But like us, they are understaffed and overambitious in their desire to make the fest as awesome as it can be for the filmmakers, so a few "I"'s may not get dotted and a few "T"'s may not get crossed.

So Mark Johnson especially take note. Left you a VM but here it is in writing:
First screening is FRIDAY 1/16 at 9:00PM that's opening night with the red carpet raz matazz and the cool feature which I'll tell you guys about in the next post.

Thurs. night is just a party (now I know Johnson will show  )

It all sounds so exciting and I love the poster. I wish I could be there.
Thanks Chris - it took FOREVER. I found a technique though where you can make your posters the wrong way - from video stills and still have them look pretty good, will post on that hopefully soon. It would be sweet if you could make it out there man.
Congrats on the acceptance Jack, I totally forgot how good this film was until I saw your new teaser and was reminded. Good luck!
Thanks man. It's got it's quirks and I don't mean all in a good way, but I think it has the most unique voice of some of my films too for that reason.

Looks like Christmas came a little early for you JDS!
Congratulations...break a leg.
Nice. Just the thing you want to say to someone before they spend ten days walking in ice and snow. :)

Jack and Wrightsville Beach crew, congratulations! Can't wait to hear more about this DVXUser short that went to the show!

here comes some mo' .... :)

That sounds awesome Jack! Congratulations again :)

looks like Jack has a opening night slot. That is a big deal, good for you!

Yeah it's THE opening night Red Carpet event. The only one of the fest. So stoked.

Simon, yeah, realized the poster gave away the basic info. Want to post some more about that film and what the screening slot means for us too ...

So here goes. Opening night and the film we screen before...

But first actually, here's a bit about a film we were going to screen before until some things got shuffled around.
It looks pretty frickin' cool too so I'll tell you about it. I'll also tel you why I think we were initially programmed with it to give a bit of insight in to how festival programmers think:

The film we were gonna screen before is called ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE UNDEAD
CHECK OUT THE TRAILER ---> shot on RED http://undeadflick.com/
randg-are-undead02.jpg

This stars the Hoff's kid (Dustin not Hasselhoff) Jake Hoffman, has some appearances by folks like Jeremy Sisto and even has Ralph Macchio (yes the Karate Kid) playing what looks like a mob boss - sweet. Would be cool if this thing had the Tarantino effect on his career.

Anyway this looks like the love child of Tom Stoppard and Simon Peg, and just looks great. Really looking forward to it.

So anyway, first we were screening infront of this thing.

I asked for their contact info so I could get my marketing groove on, went and saw their trailer, and was immediately intimidated thinking, in my inner Butthead voice "uhm ... so like this is a real movie. heh heh ... heh heh ... These guys, like have like, uhm a PR firm and stuff, and the movie looks really good and like uh real professional and stuff." No way I was gonna contact them and ask for a corner mention on their poster.

I did get why and very much liked the fact that we were gonna be screening before this one: Shakespeare and Zombies with Southern Gothic and Demon Babies. Two literary / theatrical genres or forms with some stock horror ghoulies and some laughs.

But ... we got moved infront of another equally cool and evene better fit for LMTF before I could contact them. Which I hate to be a tease, but I will be back with info on I SELL THE DEAD, and why that's a cool flick in general, why it's double cool for us to be in front of, and why it's triple cool to be in front of them on opening night. Sorry.

Too late now. 4:30 AM and I have a ton of gear to sell. Look fo rit in the market place tomorrow. Gotta stop "blogging" and take pictures of it all, etc.

Miñana.

Thanks for the interest and support guys.

This is so exciting to live vicariously through you during the whole process. Thanks for keeping us on this rocket ride and good luck!

Ok, guys. I should have a firm cost nailed down for the Monster Shack Park City Slamdance Edition by tomorrow (Monday). Been on the road and finally have my schedule nailed down.

You left our DP out. He's sort of "OK" I guess. :)

I mean I guess he contributed to to the look and feel of the film at least on some level.:D

Macgregor was absolutely invaluable on this film, of course. I don't think I've ever seen someone who can make so little look so good.
