Hey everyone,

I havent posted much of anything lately so I figured Id post a few grabs from my latest project. Its a feature thats consuming all my time right now and the very basic synopsis is this: Its about a boy whos best friend dies and how he comes to grips with what happens. Its a blen of alot of genres which isnt really a good thing but might make it interesting.

These shots are just a couple random ones I took while looking through the project file in vegas. The movie is partially shot right now and although we have a lot of work to do... it should be all shot by the very beginning of june. These arent the greatest shots of the movie...just some random ones and they are all straight from camera...i still need to do all the cc but I'm waiting to finish shooting so i can view the whole thing as piece not just fragments.

At some point I'm going to go to the directing forum and talk a little bit more about this project and some of the difficulties of making a highschool indie feature. I'm fairly happy with how its turning out even though its not as good as I'd like it to be, given all the circumstances I'm still hoping it turns out interesting.

Let me know what you think..l.and I look forward to showing you more :) like a trailer once it gets closer to completion

hate to be the nitpick guy, but in that last shot is that your arm and the camera? as long as you're not moving in that shot...i don't know, but i think you learned always look for something that might reflect. :)

i noticed that too but its a fairly quick shot so i felt it wasnt worth cutting as I'm not moving and its not that noticable. I put it up because i did like the shot otherwise and was hoping noone would notice but o well

These are all really good! haha, I didn't notice the camera and arm in the last one until it was pointed out.

Obviously, the first one stands out really well. Well framed, good forced perspective. Very Kubrickian.

The rest are good as well. Nice lighting and colors.

Nice looking shots. Especially the restaurant shot, rich colors. Any CC yet?

Thanks, I havent done any CC yet because I am saving that for the end. I know that it will create a lot of work at the end but i think it will be worth it. This is my first real feature so i could very well be wrong but I feel like i want to see the whole thing done and edited first before I cc. There are two reasons for this, one is that I know once i see the whole thing together some of the emotions portrayed in the film could change and scenes could take on new meanings. I want to be able to judge at the end what each scene really means and do cc accordingly and make the scenes flow together. Also, I only have rough cuts of the scenes right now and am not even attempting anything final because when I see the whole thing put together ill be better able to judge the edits within the context of the entire movie and if im editing things i dont want the color correction to become a pain if i choose to bring in new shots or angles or anything like that.

I think that i will probably do color correction after the movie is done and while the soundtrack guy does the soundtrack.

Thanks for the interest everyone and hopefully I can get a trailer up before too long(sometime this month or early next month) so you can all see what this is about

nobody356...

okay i need to apologize...i looked through them and they are nice especially the restaurant and then i see the theater and go "is that an arm? wait that's the dvx!" and that just threw my train of thought

but i know what you mean and it's quite "hollywood" something goes wrong or you notice something in post and say "what the hell it's a nice shot...keep it"

has a nice indie (i.e. hip) feel like that
er... that guys movie from Scrubs
and Napeoleon Dynamite etc.

Were you using a polaraizer on the shot where we see your reflection?

I was able to fix some thing like that in post once by copying the video, placing it in a layer over itself ... then in the top layer I cut a hole where the reflection was and feathered the edges ... then in the bottom laye I moved the video off center, and/or blew it up so that there was some thing in the whole besides whatver I was trying to get rid of ... so in your case it would be more of the guys t shirt or blackness.

good point about fixing in post Jack, I'm not getting in to that untill i do color correction and finalization for the same reasons i talked about in my previous post. I wasnt using a polarizer for that.

And I'm glad you think it has a "nice indie feel" because I guess indie is what I'm going for. Because of my skill and my resources if I went for a hollywood feel i think it would definately fall short. So I'm hoping it will be a little more independent feeling and interesting in a different kind of way. Its funny because discussing soundtrack with my composer has really made me think about and lay out in words what i really want the feel of the movie to be and think more about the audience im trying to attract.

Hopefully the rest of the month will go fairly smoothly with shooting and i can get in to the more final stages of this somewhat soon.
