T2i A couple questions before purchase

Hi all
I am not a dslr user and don't really know much about still cameras but I'm going to pull the trigger on the T2i just because of the price point and quality of the footage I've seen. (if they ever become available again......) I don't know how viable this would be for production type work I do and the workflow doesn't seem to be too much of a problem but I do have a few questions (Noob type) that I haven't been able to resolve through research on this and other forums. Maybe someone can help or point me in the right direction.

1) I know and have heard the audio on this cam sucks (and I do have a Marantz 660 external recorder I can use) but is the audio bad because of the on board mic or the internal recording mechanisim? i.e. If I hook up a nice seinheiser shotgun or wireless lavs will I get good sound or is it just crummy components in the camera and I'll get bad sound no matter what I hook up. (when I say bad sound, I mean sound that cannot be used for TV broadcast.)

2) I plan on getting the kit lens with the camera and I know it's not the best, but I also recently came across a few Nikon film camera lens' that MIGHT be usable on this cam. (I honestly don't know) They are....

EDIT: prime purpose for the camera will be video with occasional still stuff

1 Nikon Zoom- Nikkor*ED 50-300mm 1:4.5 179307 <---ser #????
This thing I think was made in the early 80s and is about 3 inches around and 10 inches long and kinda heavy (5 lbs????) came hooked up to an old Nikon 35 mm film camera.

1 Vivitar Series 1 solid catadioptric lens 600mm 1:8 no 44730956
4 inches long, 4 inches around.

1 Sigma telephoto multi YS 1:4 f=300mm greek letter E-74051413

I spent about an hour yesterday looking for these lens' and trying to determine if they are worth much and usable with a T2i (even though they're a little long)

Anyone have any info? Are the lens' even worth getting a canon mount for? Would they even be usable for any kind of short or music vid? (or too long)

Thanks

I can't help you with your lens selection, but for audio you'll want an external recorder. The T2i has non-defeatable AGC. I use the camera audio to lineup waveforms for synching with my Zoom H2, but that's it.

Yeah it's everything- AGC, crappy mic, low bitrate- etc. The onboard audio is completely useless other than for recording wind noise and camera noises.

Yeah, you can use it with a clap board..or spend more $$$ and get PluralEyes, which does the synch automatically in Vegas and Final Cut Pro.
