sorry Pookie, I couldn't help myself....

What, and miss posts like "Premiere 24p vs. A poke in the eye with a sharp stick" or questions like "If I like shoot me one 'o' them video movie thangys, wart shud I wear when I git me my Oscar?" or "I finally have time to shoot a feature length movie this weekend, can one of you write and send me the script which will be a hit movie for me?..Oh yes and could you snap it up, I need it by tomorrow afternoon!"

...What sort of test do you have in mind?

Somethign that someone has to administer? ..Or just some automatic quiz.. that you cna only take once per day?

in this fast food/spoon fed society, many people are looking for handouts and instant results. i was a lurker on this forum for several months before i joined, but still didn't really ask any questions for quite some time. but i entered the whole experience knowing full well how tough, steep, fun, and enjoyable the learning curve would be.

all the answers are here if for those who put forth an earnest effort to search and read, read, read. neophytes who are serious about learning will already know there are no quick and easy answers to questions like "how do I get the most filmic look?" and they won't ask. they'll spend a lot of time searching these threads and soaking up as much knowledge and shared experience as they can.

when this subject has come up in the past, the overall sentiment was that if newbie questions bother you, just ignore them.

Whoa, no need to segregate, folks! internet is cool because it's open and free. Trying to shut the site to "selected" individuals is kinda nazi.

Also, we would loose all the "what's that click" questions...

would your new test concept affect current users?, if your after inexperienced newbies, there are still many that are already members, will you let them to continue their posts that seem to irritate you, just as long as no new ones get in?

If membership here is based on competency, I only have one thing to say...

I'm gonna miss you guys.

Actually, you should have to prove that you are capable of using the search function before you are allowed to post.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to post until they have reached "Silver Member" status. :)

"So I'm starting my feature film this weekend; what accessories do you reccomend I get?"

Uh, how about a clue?

Okay, I'd like a clue. I will take Tripods for $500 (see my other thread - YATT).

I think there's far more valuable information here than newbie crap. Maybe I'm alone, but I love reading posts that reinforce that I am actually slightly ahead of the curve in one aspect of my life.....Besides, its so much damn fun writing "RTFM" when somebody asks how to find the OIS button and what it does. :)

There needs to be fourth choice. After all, who's to say which questions are just too plain stupid and which are not? And what about stupid answers? Then there's the "I just got my DVX and here's some footage of my outhouse" posts. What about them? Besides you guys are overlooking the fact that besides giving you an opportunity to dazzle us all with your brilliance and expertise, the newbies also represent business opportunities. After all we've all already got copies of the DVX book. Besides, I'm not about to vote myself off this board....

While I would miss those posts, as they do make me LMAO with all of the creative answers that people come up with, (And I love the mooning emoticon that Sirius Doggy came up with for the thread that mmm linked to.) it would be helpful to have a basic test that ran people through the most commonly asked questions, such as "what's that rattle". The test wouldn't have to be difficult, more informative, so that they are leaning the answers to the basic questions before they ask them.

Or here is another idea:
A new forum: DAQ (Dumb Ass Questions). Post all of your basic questions that will probably get you slapped upside the head here. (Don't worry, it'll be a light slapping, we will not leave marks ... maybe.)

How about jsut post instructions on how to join somewhere on the forum.. you know, so that you have to search for and read them!

- Mikko.

If we really want to control the "stupid question why didn't you use the search function or at least look at the post someone else did 10 minutes ago you stupid jerk?" stuff, we need a browsable index. Locking the doors is not why we are here. It's great to search, but sometimes a Mic FAQ, a Lighting FAQ, a Tripod FAQ (My favorite choice this week), and a "What that rattle?" Faq do a better job. In all the centuries of Internet usage, nothing helps newbies like a FAQ. When you are real new BEE, it's hard to even think of the right questions to ask.

I volunteer to create the master FAQ index (What the FAQ is the question anyway?)

I like waltind's idea - a new section FOR NEWBIES ONLY - DAQ ... oh, and maybe make the search button up top about 80 gazzilion times bigger so that maybe they will spot it.
