On the fear of being banned for asking what some may class as a dumb ass question if newbies are only allowed to search not post....at what stage can they post ? Because you may search for ever and no one will know ! ( standby for abuse )

This thread is hilarious. I say bring on the newbs. People learn pretty quick not to ask stupid questions when it'll spawn seven pages of replies that rip em.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to post until they have reached "Silver Member" status. :)

Boy that would really frustrate the sh*t out of the new guys... (don't you hate it when nobody acknowledges your A material?)

I will be the first to admit that I'm closer to an amature when it comes to pay... but I do paid gigs so technically I'm a professional.

I guess I'm just not a very good professional... although I did produce a white noise video set to an effect I call "static"... and Channel 3 paid me royaltees to run my program for years before cable came along.

Good grief guys, who said anyone had to take a test or that newbies shouldn't post? As far as anyone who is new, it's been said just to practice some etiquette. To avoid asking a question that has been answered many times before, do some homework. Read the manual, read the posts or do a search or read the DVX Book if you have it.
As far as everyone old or new, add more information about who you are. If you are a professional . . . Great, if you are brand new . . . Great. Just base things on who you are not just how many posts you have made.

In keeping with a competency test for newbies, why not one for the people who give answers, information or advice? At least let the posters (newbies) know if the person who is giving the advice really knows what there talking about.

Put your experience right in your profile:

Do you make a living in this field (Video or Film), if so how many years.

Are you a student.

Are you a hobbyist.

What type of work do you do, Audio, Editor, TV Commercials, Commercial long form video, Director, DP etc.

It's probably only fair that when someone asks a question it's good to know the background of the person who is answering their question.
Just a thought.
