Go ahead. Try not to cry. I dare you.

(and it's not really the images, just the song)

I wasn't sure what I was going to be watching at first, and thought it was a joke. That was actually really sad. He was a vital part of me growing up!

Wow.

What's amazing is how timeless Henson's creations really are. I'm running a camp all summer, and we watched the original Muppet Movie last night. It was a rain plan "movie night." 8th and 9th graders. They were glued to it.

The week before, our rain plan for the high-schoolers was "Dark Crystal," which only one of them had ever seen before. And they were glued to it.

It really was a huge loss when Henson died, but a testament to him that newer generations are still very much attached to the Muppets in some form or another.

I have this poster in my edit room.

It's one of the enduring regrets of my professional life that I was too late in starting, to have had a chance to work with Jim Henson.

One of those unique voices that was silenced, when there was still a great deal for him to say.

And The Dark Crystal was one of three films that decided me on pursuing a production career. So without having gotten to meet him, you might say that I still owe him.

Speaking of Henson-related weepiness… did anyone else read the Muppet Man biopic script that topped last year’s Black List?

You did? Well did you also read this?

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/ent.../muppet-fur-flies-over-jim-henson-script.html

It turns out that the guy—who wasn’t in possession of any rights whatsoever—basically adapted Henson’s Wikipedia entry into a 140-page screenplay, filling any lacunae (i.e. pretty much the whole script) by simply pulling stuff out of his poop-hatch!

Unbelievably, the script not only topped the Black List, but was actually bought by the Henson co. (presumably to avoid any legal issues that might arise if/when they decide to produce their own film about their beloved friend/mentor/father).

Pretty, pretty, pretty crazy…
