90d can look very good

My main camera is the ursa 12k, but sometimes I don’t want or need to shoot giant raw files. The canon 90d is pretty limited as far as video capabilities. However, as long as I nail exposure, it looks pretty good. The following video was not graded at all. The key to getting good images is to expose a stop over what the meter says to shoot most of the time. That’s how this footage was shoot. Not bad, right?

Yeah, as long as you shoot 4K. The way you used it here is how millions use them (WYSIWYG with pleasing Canon color science).

The 90D is actually one of their best consumer/prosumer DSLRs and ironically it's one of their last.

That makes a lot of sense. There’s not much room for error and if you do screw the shot up, you’re probably not going to be able to fix it in post. But if you get it right, the results are good.

It’s a shame they moved on. It’s a good stills camera, too.

They will eventually have a better one for a lower price in their mirrorless form.

They have had the R and RP for a while but both are cropped (more than the 90D's APS-C) and they disabled DPAF in 4K on the RP.

The old rule still applies, no matter which camera you use: the camera wants light. Light it right and expose it right and there’s not much more work to do to get good results.

People are so obsessed with low-light production these days, and, quite honestly, it’s still not producing the greatest end-products as compared to sets where they still light everything. Used to be, we didn’t need backlit slates. I had to purchase one a while back because I work on so many dark sets.
