Is it possible to connect MM-1 to 7D and control audio levels manually avoiding 7D's audio limiter?
Is/has Canon solved the audio problem on the 7D (magic lantern can't work on 7D)?

thank you.

i don't know what "MM-1" is, so can't figure out any answer for this... The AGC on the 7D hasn't been solved yet but there is a workaround if you have any kind of mp3 player...: http://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=3320

EDIT: just googled the mm-1, i think it won't change anything, if there's no sound, the 7D would push the levels again automatically...

The 7D's AGC cannot be turned off (not a limiter, but Auto Gain Control... big difference). So no, Canon has not changed that.

As for connecting any kind of external pre-amp or mixer, it can be done but with caveats. First, you'll still have the AGC circuit making the sound quality generally unusable. Second, even if you do have a camera with selectable AGC, the 1/8" is mic-level and a pre-amp or mixer is generally designed to send line-level out. There are some mixers with selectable output level, but the MM-1 is line-level out. That means that it needs to be padded down to mic-level before connecting to the camera. Last, in-camera sound with a DSLR is generally not the best quality out there.

There are XLR input adapters from JuicedLink and Beachtek that have AGC disable functions. These boxes do exactly what is suggested by stefanhuberfilms' link, but instead of a workaround it gives you XLR ins and the tone that keeps the AGC under control. The downside? Not the best pre-amps on the mic inputs, and having to sacrifice one of the record channels for the AGC disabler.

Your best bet for sound with the 7D is second-system (an external audio recorder).

Thanks very much for your help and knowledge.

I think i will consider an external audio recorder, but for not so important stuff that workaround to fool the AGC is a possibility.

Sorry for my english.
