7D problem, please help.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but it's a problem i just started experiencing.

When shooting video my camera likes to literally stop recording. A bar shows up on my LCD, fills up, and then stops my recording. It doesn't happen often...but often enough. It's very frustrating.

I was thinking it's a problem with my CF card...but I'm really not sure. Does anyone know what might be happening with my camera? Thanks in advance.

That is the buffer between the camera spitting out the frames and your CF card writing them down. If your CF card cannot write as fast or faster then the camera is spitting the frames out, your buffer will fill up and when it is full the camera must stop recording because there is no more space for the processed frames to go. Looks like you need a faster CF card.

This also happens on my Kingston x133 cards.

My suggestion is that you don't mix Stills and Video on the same card, and you plan on only using 75% of the cards capacity. This sucks, I know. Maybe I should sell my cards and get new ones. but likely I will keep these for photos and buy new ones for video.

I bought 3 Kingston Cards and I have not had this happen yet, But I only use them for back up just incase the extreme cards get full. I mean for $29 bucks you kind of can't pick up one or two for emergency purposes.

hmmm, i have the 16GB kingston 133x and i never have this prob.

I might see that bar on the very first line for about 2 seconds maybe 2-3 seconds after i push record, but then it goes away and never returns.

How long are these takes? SO far the longest take ive done on my 7D has only been about 2-3 mins.

I need another card, not sure if i should get a really awesome $200 sandisk, or just another one of these.

I have the Kingston 133x 32g and mix stills (RAW and JPEG) and video all the time with no problems. The only time I have had problems with the buffer filling up was once, after a fresh in camera card format. It was the first clip I shot to the card at 1080p and it just crapped out after about three seconds. That was the first paid gig I did with the 7D (which I knew I shouldn't have done) and it will most likely be the last.

I have only ever used Kingston x133 cards and Im satisfied with their performance...

If you pop in a 16GB card and record 3 - 12min clips in a row you will start to run into this problem. In fact my test yielded 2 - 12min, and 1-9min clip, there were photos already on the card. Its long takes and nearly full cards that cause it.

I use Extreme III 8 / 16 gig cards and never had this problem.... ever....even with multiple 6-10 min takes
