Correct -- the 16GB firmware update is supposed to work for the 32GB cards also. When I was down in Aus they said that they'd actually received their first shipment of 32GB cards. Still, I'd expect scarce quantities for the first six weeks or so.
I'm now confused about the price.... The system we were told was simple:
- new card out will take price of older card and the price of the older card will drop half...
But: the 16GB card had a msrp of 900USD from the beginning... Now the 32GB comes for 1800 USD msrp - so will the price of the 16GB card not yet drop half until the 64GB card will be out?
When will the 16GB card's price drop half for the first time?
I think you're misreading what was said. They didn't say that the new cards would be priced where the old ones were. And that certainly didn't happen with the 16GB card either -- if it had, the 16GB would have been priced at $1400, not $900!
They said that you can basically expect capacities to double each year, and prices to fall in half each year. And that's largely been true. So when would the 16GB be expected to fall? After it's been out for a year, probably. And it's only been on the market six months so far.
I just got an e-mail from Full Compass complete with UPS tracking number indicating that my order was shipped. The only thing I had on order were two 32GB cards.
Best to do would be to call them. They are re-working their site right now, as it isn't very navigable for us dvxusers
Sounds like all the authorized folks received limited quantities of 32 gig cards in the last day or so. I'm just adding another name to the list for you guys. Spec-Comm as always is great. Videoscope, though unknown around these parts has a real nice guy running the company and generally keeps good stock on p2 cards, and cameras, etc. And, of course others. Check out the list of Authorized dealers and start calling around.
