7D or 5D when 5D gets 24/25/60 fps?

I mean that those that can afford a proper video camera, that does everything the SLR does and has none of the drawbacks the SLR has, will get one and use one. If it's $5,000, that's what they'll get.

And those who can't possibly stretch for $5,000 for such a video camera, will do what they've always done -- make the best they can on what they can afford. Whether that's using an SLR or an HV20, whether that's using home depot lights, whatever.

I guess what I'm really saying is -- video professionals only put up with the limitations that the SLRs have because there's no other practical choice. Once there is a practical choice, I think you're going to see far fewer people wanting to put up with the limitations. But for those who couldn't afford whatever that practical choice is, the SLRs will be here at their incredibly amazing low prices.

Does anyone else like the DSLR form factor? I find myself carrying it more, shooting more, it attracts way less attention...

7d rocks.. Had and HVX 200 That rocks too, but the DSLR just seem more Practical . No need for DOF adapters and If rolling shutter is an Issue during action Shots Just Shoot the 720/60p mode and the issue is of Skew seems to go away a bit.

someone mentioned in this thread that the 7d has cleaner ISO than the 5d2, that is an absolute falsehood, such a lie.

That being said, If the 5d2 comes out with 60p, I am getting one for sure and selling the 7d. 7D is great, but the hi-iso and the crop sensor (for photos) is irritating.

Haha. It is? I assume you have both cameras and you've tested this yourself.

Good.

I'm gonna get flayed for this, but the form factor was the number one plus for me. Once a viewfinder can be enabled on the canons there's some 3 point support, and that would make me happy for instance. I love that they're 'not' video cameras.

I seem to recall a thread from a while back that showed the two noise profiles side by side. They were shot with a black background. That gave a pretty good idea on what the noise from both looked like at the same ISO.

Edit: Also, it's kind of strange to call someone who has both cams (multiple of each) a liar.

Purely from a video perspective, I don't think the 5DM2 will be that much 'better' in video mode, even if it gets all the video options. Of course, it apparently looks a tiny bit better, and is better in low light (all of which can be overcome I'm sure).

I bought a 5DM2 ..and I don't regret it. Not because of the video features, but for the photography aspect. I prefer it over the 7D primarily for that reason.

Edit: spelling

Except (from a value to regular photogs standpoint) it also is twice as fast, has way better autofocus and is better sealed than the 5D.

Except (from a value to regular photogs standpoint), the 5D2 is 21mp FF with an extra stop+ of sens. Try that with the 7D. Point is, they are two different cameras with different strengths and weaknesses. For me personally, I wouldn't trade FF for all the speed in the world, but then again, I like to go wide and I don't shoot sports.

Exactly. I'm not sure where the assumption comes from, as far as video IQ goes the 7D is greater than the 5D, perhaps not by any great margin but definitely the better IQ.

Only reason I even still have my 5D is stills, even with the 24p "update" due out between now and June I'm considering selling and picking up another 7D, or simply saving some money for the next new camera.
