7D now or wait?

So I think I've narrowed my choices down to the 7d for my budget, but reading some of the other forums I've learned that Nikon is supposed to come out with a contender in February. Do you guys think it's worth waiting to see what Nikon comes out with?

I don't have any jobs lined up but I really need to build my portfolio and get my hands on editing my own stuff so I really want to get a camera, and something that will last me a little while. I work in broadcast and for one of the more famous photogs in nyc so I definitely want something that can do stills as well as video. I'm just hesitant buying because I have a really small personal budget and I want to make sure it's worth it. Any advice?

Well, so far Nikon has dropped the ball on the video side of things, so if you want something now the 7d is it.

There will always be something better coming down the pike eventually, but you have to jump in sometime.

I think that the 7d will be good for some time.

Think of it this way. First of all the 7d is GREAT. You'll love it. And second of all... the months you wait on something better is VALUABLE time you lost that you could have been doing some great work and getting jobs.

Time is money.

Where did you hear about a rumored Nikon contender in February? I generally like Nikon more than Canon, and I'm in the same boat with you on whether or not to buy the 7D now or wait for Nikon to catch up..

d90 forum. no idea if it has any merit or not. Personally I couldn't care less whether it's Nikon or Canon as long as the results are good.

Do you guys think there will be a dslr with decent autofocus in video mode anytime soon?
