7D is a major rip-off in Australia...

camerasdirect have the body only for $2329, and the plat kit (with 15-85 is usm lens) for $3299

That's excellent prices. I'm gonna cancel my adorama orders.

Grrr....$70... I guess I'll stick with Quality Camera though. At least their warranty is with Canon Oz, where as Cam Direct use their own guys.

Peter

Just got my invoice from Quality Camera. $2199 + GST = $2399.00. I thought of getting it from the US, but by the time you do the conversion from US$1700 + shipping + GST entry, I really don't think it's worth it. Plus QC's units come with Canon Australia warranty and the delivery queue may be quicker than US back-orders.

Peter

Have they charged you for it?

Yeah I reckon it will be a lot quicker picking one up locally.

Just dunno if I want to part with my MKII just incase the 24p firmware comes, the bloomin pom still reckons it looks better, just gonna have to roll with both for a while.

The implication on their website is they use their own repairers. I not saying they are less capable than Canon, but it doesn't state the manufaturers provide the warranty. I was just showing out a point of difference.

 • All warranty claims/repairs are processed in Australia by authorised repairers.
 • All products sold by Camerasdirect have a One Year Warranty included in the advertised price.
 • This warranty is provided by Camerasdirect.
 • The warranty is a "manufacturers fault" type warranty that covers you against the cost of repairing a fault due to defective manufacturing.
 • The Camerasdirect warranty is non transferable.

I paid a $100 deposit. Balance on delivery.

Yeah I am, but I think I'll get a 7D to play with and see how well it holds up for myself. I think I'll be getting a new DSLR every 6 months or so for the foreseeable future.

Cool.

I wish I could afford the Zacuto stuff. If I go 7D, it's gonna be just the camera, memory cards, and a cheap EF series prime with manual focus...

I want 35mm EF f1.4...but that's $1900AUD...dunno what to get instead...?

There is one lens that is an absolute 'no brainer' in my opinion...

I've been using the cheap 50mm 1.8 prime on my 40D...this thing is sensational value...while it's only plastic in construction the quality of the shots I get out of it is fantastic and it is great for shallow depth of field.

Am very much looking forward to one day using this lens to record HD video.

I actually have my heart set on this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Canon-EF-50...nses?hash=item45edaeb35d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

But people are telling me it will become 80mm on the 7D due to crop factor. Now I'm trying to figure out how big of a difference 80mm would make...

Ted's dropped the price down to $2599, by the sounds of it we should see it closer to 2000AUD on online au shops once it ships.

I've been buying all my stuff from BH photo and shipping it to australia. Even with shipping and tax it's a shitload cheaper! At the end of the day the mark up is ridiculous. Retailers buy at WHOLSALE prices. If I (as a consumer) can ship one item to my door and put 35% markup on it and still make it cheaper than a retailer, then something's a miss.

Georges camera shop will be selling it for 2500 AU body only

next week i think , should i buy it from there or Go B&H ?

importing from b & h will come out to around $2200-2300 including gst, custom fees and shipping. Not to mention that australia post have now banned packages that have any type of lithium battery in it. Not worth it in my opinion.

How on earth can Aus post possibly police that? How long has the ban been in place? I just received a shipment from BH Photo with li ion batteries. Although with BH photo it doesn't go anywhere near Aus Post. It's UPS or Fed Ex. I though tcameras had world wide warranties because they are travel/portable items?

Even if it works out at $2250 that's still a few hundred dollars of saving towards a nice lens or other gear.

I've brought this up in other posts and forums. The few specialists stores that sell the Pro sumer to full broadcast and above have a monopoly pretty much. The mark up for retaillers is remarkable.I blame companies like Panasonic and Sony who allow only a few sellers the market in Australia.I have tried many times to have a dealership of sorts to no avail.

The people here need competition.Instead the few selling all sell the same price and won't allow anyone else in the game. The result is many of my camera friends buy overseas and or import directly. As soon as a new type of camera comes out .RED and Glidecam for example
The bullies quickly secure a exculsive dealership and no one else can buy but through them.
