Hey guys,

We have our official thread running in the USER FILMS section here:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?225587-JANE-DOE-Official-Thread

and our official extended trailer:

I'm posting to let you all know about our IndieGoGo campaign that we've set up and are running to help us finish the film. As fellow filmmakers, we know you understand the trials and tribulations of going from script to screen...so we won't bore you with the details!

We've come to a point where we can go no further without completion funds, but are not giving up! We've officially launched our extended trailer for the film and are offering some pretty cool incentives through our online campaign.

Remember, EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS! Please don't feel as if you can't contribute a large amount that it will be dismissed. On the contrary, we appreciate EVERYONE'S support.

Without further ado, we present our IndieGoGo campaign!

Please share on your Facebook pages, Tweet about us and feel free to blog if you have one!

Thanks again and with your help, we'll be sending this film out to festivals in no time!

Bump. Lots of views - no comments? Critiques on the trailer? Anything?

2:24 is where it starts: "A Journey into the darkest of places". Nothing grabs me before that. Everything grabs me after that.

Wow, great to hear. Trailer is fairly long and I'll explain our reasoning behind it. Nowadays, a lot can be said for a film's trailer. It can either make or break a film when it comes to the sales stage and finding distribution. The initial point to this trailer was to work as an investor tool for us and to try to sign a sales agent. We wanted to show as much production value as possible. It ended up taking a little longer than expected to put together the trailer, but then everything after that started happening pretty fast.

We just signed a worldwide sales agreement with House of Film - www.houseoffilm.net (sales agent) and will be represented at all the big international film markets (EFM, AFM, Cannes, etc). We decided to get some promotion going as we need some finishing funds to get post done and really don't have the time to cut the trailer down, so hence the release of the extended version.

There will likely be a re-cut of the trailer in the next couple months, but for now unfortunately we have to focus our attention on the getting the film finished!

Thanks for your feedback,

Kegan

Unlike the cyclone...i found the first part to work and contrast well with the 2nd part pf the trailer. Looks like a real good film. Congrats to the team. What was your role?

I personally think there's a couple shots in the commercial that really show too many "B qualities" of the film (like the Good Cook scene, I just don't think the lighting style matches with the film and seems to look B-grade.), and shots here and there pretty much do the same type of negative thing, but for the most part, it's extremely done well how the preview pulls you in with what seems to be a great combo of music paired with very effecting shots. When this preview does what it does well, it really exceeds. Just, there are shots that I wouldn't put in it, like the Good Cook scene and any that seem to give too much away in terms of "Ok, this might not be the best lit thing of all time." - the outdoor shots is really where this preview shines, I'd focus it in that area. In terms of making a preview geared for producers and audiences, you really got to sit back and be extremely critical - then again, you also have to be critical about the film itself, if it looks bad in a preview, it's probably going to look bad in the film itself. Your preview should without a doubt be good as or better than the film, indie films just can't take a risk with a negative preview!

But overall, this looks like it's going to be one of the better films shot on DSLR - we have Tiny Furniture as our comedy drama, Hills Green as our romance, Bad Is Bad as the thriller, Farm as our zombie film, ect ect and I think Jane Doe will fit into that niche very well as the urban drama. Tiny Furniture probably is still the queen at the moment, it really had very consistent and flattering production styles (incredibly important for an indie film to truly stand out.), but other than that, I think there's a great niche going on in the DSLR world. Many films that I would like to check out. Sadly though, many of these films probably would have never interested me unless I was interested in the DSLR market, I truly wish the filmmaking standard would be a bit higher, many of these films showcase incredible moments, but consistency is what really hurts them.

The really cool thing about Jane Doe is the style really seems to blur the lines between hand-held camcorder style and suspended camera style - it really gives the profound effect in many shots that the girl is on the street in her own world, it's very personal, it's very ambient, it's very surreal, and for those types of shots, this film really looks good. The most negative thing would be is that some of the dialogue scenes really seem to evoke that cheese, and all true and honest, every time the scene changes in the preview, the skin tones go from green, to red, to orange, to blue, to whatever and keeping that skin consistent is highly critical and important!

Impressive, look very nice to me. I agree for "Good Cook" scene being of lower style. Otherwise it looks most as a pro movie. Great music and some very nice editing cuts. Actress is also very good in what she does.

not for me. too slow. I only made it :48 into the trailer. I couldn't tell what genre the film was in, anything about the protagonist, and it was difficult to get over the handheld quality. The Color was muddy too, try taking some of it out and it'll clean out those brown greens.

I don't get sites like IndieGoGo or Kickstartr, you're asking people to put up money, but not as an investment in the film, more as a donation? I don't understand how people can solicit donations for something they hope to profit from in the future. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but if I give you money for your film and that film is then sold, I expect to see a cut of it. Am I wrong here?

Thanks for the feedback guys! Much appreciated.

Snapper123: Thanks for really thinking about the trailer and the plot. We really appreciate that. With an extended trailer its sometimes difficult to differentiate between what WE think is good and what the audience will relate to. Agreed that a step back never hurts. It will definitely be a priority as we go through post-production.

CiPO: Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, in retrospect that scene might have come off a little more TV-ish than film, but in context you might be surprised at how well it connects the film. We'll have to wait and see!

WhiteMonkey: Thanks for taking the time to try to check it out. Handheld isn't for everyone and we understand that. We'll take your colour advice under consideration - thanks again!
